Another six stars to you my friend. I thought I have written some emotional poems about the military, but after reading your work I'm blown away again. I live the life of a soldier, but you are a soldier's mother which must bring even more emotion to your writing. This poem flows so well and evenly. I know my mom would love your work too.

Again, coming from you, that's quite an honor. Thank you so much!! As proud as we are of our children, for being in the military, I don't think anyone can possibly imagine the fear and emotion we feel when our children are deployed. I would love to hear what your mom thinks of this poem...

Yes, our son is safe... But I have spent a LOT of time talking to God and asking him to watch over, not just my two Airmen, but all of the other men and women serving. Thank you!!

Cngrats on your win. I can see why this piece won. Every parent on this site should be able to relate to this one. The feelings and emotions are all over this piece. The rhyming is good and it flows well but the message is the best. Good job.

This is a wonderful, sentimental poem, almost a prayer for keeping the son safe when he cannot be home at Christmas. Where is he? In prison? In the army? At a business far away? You tell us you miss him, but there seems to be little emotion. Where is the anguish? Where is the anger?

I respect your opinion... so thank you for the review. I'm just wondering if you read MY poem... because I think most of your questions were answered. It definitely is a prayer... which is why I started it with the words, "Dear Lord".
This is very much a true "story" and written from the heart. I'm sorry you weren't able to be moved by my poem, because it was written from nothing but emotion.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful tribute to your son but also to the other men and women of the military who keep us safe. Very well done and good luck in the contest.
Blessings to you and your family

But Christmas is for families,
And part of mine's not here,
I'm trying to be strong, Lord,
But it doesn't stop the tears... That stanza nearly brought me to tears!
Very well written poem, nice flow and the emotions really reached my inner. Good luck.
