I love this poem your truly captured the essence of our fair Charm city in each line! I appreciated how like in city has it's woes you did not dwell on them!
And this passage:
Guessing if ghosts of merchants and captains under foot
still walk amongst us in the town they adore.
Historical plaques mark climes where you're put...
I share this same sentiment every time I go to Federal Hill and walk along the cobble stone streets!
Thanks for sharing!

Wow! I consider this an incredible review and thank you very much for it and the compliments as well.

Believe me, I have butted heads in regards to the crime and justice situation in Baltimore, much as my father did as he worked in Juvenile Services and ruined his career by being so outspoken. Even got the mayor to refer to people like me as racists. The thing is, Baltimore has a bad national reputation as well, and I really strove to develop a much more accurate depiction as most people, are fine here.

I just posted another Baltimore related post, which is in my Baltimore's Museums book. Each museum will have a introductory poem (5-7-5 and in Haiku fashoion), an information sheet, a poem related to it, as well a poem of my choosing related to what they do or the history they present.

    Have a great day! Mike

I enjoyed your poem about Baltimore, Mike. I've never been there so your great descriptions and words gave my senses an idea of the city as I strolled along.
Smiles,
Indy : )

I thank you for your compliments and this review. I wanted the reader to feel like they were walking with me, and it amazes it was stated in the reviews of this, but the poetic element in Baltimore don't seem to want to walk. LOL Mike

Great work, Mike. I have walked those streets so long ago it feels like another lifetime. Actually it was probably about the time you were born. You capture the diversity well, and compliment with just the right artwork and color scheme.

I thank you very much for your compliments and this review. I appreciate the comments on the art as that was the first day I wandered around with thoughts of creating a photographic image file. When I realized I didn't win the contest and the poem was released, I looked around but noting would show the essences of Baltimore and I felt it placed emphasis on the opening lines.

You're always welcome back for a visit.

Hi Mike,

This is a marvelous poem and your imagery put me smack dab on the streets. You have a grand rhyme, a smooth flow, good alliteration and the theme is superb. It reminds me about how I felt when I walked the streets in New York. Your word selections is exquisite and worthy of a six. Well done, chey

Wow Chey! I was only hoping for a good word from you. This was a non-winning contest for the CityLit Festival poetry contest and love the sentiments you expressed in this review as that was what I was hoping to get. Thank you so much for your generous rating and wonderful review. With love, Mike

I love this rare honor of a review from QQ. Like how a lot of people think about New York, the perception of the streets of Baltimore are dangerous, and they are; but I felt it unfair not to attempt to place the reality of that perception into a perspective that honors most people that walk them.

I also wanted to relate the history those streets held, as well of a future they should also hold. I love this review and thank you for it and your compliments. Mike

Dare I say sestinas are boring to me as I figured out who to write them, yet I love the form and changed the other rules such as words not repeating and rhyming as well, a syllable count for each line. I wanted to create something, just like walking down a new street.

I thank you for the compliments and this review. Mike
