wow!! This is a strong entry for the 55 word contest. You not only told a great story, in a few words, but you also educated me. Good luck with the contest.

You have a well-executed story here. But I'm somewhat puzzled: Was Spider Grandmother waiting at the cave entrance, since you say that Lansa crawled to meet "A rainbow-circled moon suddenly filled the cave's entrance." If so, why wouldn't he have encountered it coming into the cave?
Sorry to sound so picky; it's just that little things like that jar my reading and make me stop and wonder.

Hello, aakemp. The mystical being waited within the moon/craft that hovered outside the entrance of the cave. I've long felt that many cave paintings are depictions of sky creatures who once visited our planet. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the read. You are most generous considering the story was 'jarring' for you.
Warm regards, Bev

Thank you for clarifying that bit. Actually, it wasn't the whole story that was jarring, just that ending, but since you had so little room in which to work, I felt that should have no significant impact on my overall rating.

That's not always the way folks work on this site, so I am appreciative of your fairness. And you made a very good point to boot!

Hi Bev, dear,
Even if I there were no author notes and I had no idea what the write was really about ... it would have still been compelling because of the vivid imagery and the ambiance you created with such few words.
So very well done, my friend. All the very best in the contest!

Man often thinks he has found something new, when in fact he has found a new revision of something old. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words.

One of the things I like about your writing, Bev, is that I often learn something new. Here, your author's notes once again teach me something I didn't know. Your story provides such an eery, mystical background, which I love. You are so good at this sort of thing in your novel. I hope you win this contest. What a challenge to write a story in exactly 55 words, and you've succeeded!
Hugs,
Connie

This is a brilliantly interesting and intriguing 55 word story which delivers it's story extremely well with clever description. I love the unusual setting and the mystical element to it. "A rainbow-circled moon" - what fantastic imagery. Well done, this is an excellent contender for the 55 word writing contest.
Kindest of regards,
Julie :-)

Hi, Julie. Thank you so much for your awesome review. I'm glad you felt the mystical element in the story. I am totally fascinated with the idea that cave paintings, in some cases, could be depictions of ancient astronauts. Loved the review. You're a real pal!
Hugs, Bev

Bev, I've never heard of a "spider grandmother", so I can't relate to that part of your 55 word story. However, the story appears to be well written. The photo art is gorgeous and the story accomplishes the 55 word count, so I would say that you did an excellent job. Good luck in the contest. Carole

This is wonderful girl and quite the 55-word story to boot. I found it to be intriguing and full of mystery but if I were a Hopi I'm sure I wouldn't.
