The narrative is engaging and seems well written. The reader's attention is held all the way through to the end of the piece. And, there is a buildup of suspense regarding the continuation of the plot. In addition, the dialogue is believable. It's difficult to judge the progress of the storyline though from such a short piece of narrative.

Hi, Barbara, this is very tense, scary stuff.
The idea that someone has a secret way into the house is chilling.
I liked Cash's impotent frustration, and his fear that Paige may go back to Boston.
Great post.

Hi Barbara,
The plot just gets thicker with each new chapter. I too am sorry you can't post more than once a week but work beckons you! I think Paige is so scared with all that is going on. I ask the same question as Cash...What are they looking for? And who are THEY, a ghost or man? This is really a puzzle that I can't figure out anymore than Cash and Billy Joe. Excellent chapter, Virtual six....blessings, chey

Again the mystery of the in ant-bellum house intruder deepens. Well written dialogue brings along the reader through a maze of ideas about 'who' is to blame for the scattering of cushions, knocked over bric a brac...why? Hopefully we with find out and soon.

Barbara,
The chapter is interesting and engaging and advances the storyline. The happenings in the mansion keep the suspense level high. Now there is more than just doors opening and closing...someone has ransacked the parlor as if looking for something.
It is an interesting read, and I look forward to the next chapter.

Look like an oak bannister to me, Barbara. Just can't count on finding the right picture when you need it, can ya?

You all right?" Billy Joe stroked the back (of) her head and ...
Nicely done segment.

Who could blame Paige for wanting to go back to Boston? Even the puppy is frightened with all the strange goings-on. The guys and Mary Pat have really been supportive of Paige. Humorous remark about what they would have to say if they contacted the police. It's a serious situation they're confronted with, but nothing that concrete to point to a human suspect. They find the parlor has been ransacked, with furniture scattered as if someone is looking for something. Someone else must know about the secret stairs. Very suspenseful, interesting chapter. judi

This is fascinating. Secret stairs and panels. I wonder now who messed up the room. Was that who Page heard earlier? Are they accessing the house through a secret entrance? What do they want?
Need I ask if this is a mystery?
Suggestions:
-Billy Joe stroked the back[of] her head
Then I was interested in Billy Joe's dialogue:
-If we know about the hidden stairs, so could somebody else
If we know about the hidden stairs, somebody else might.
Mary Pat and me'll stay, too."
-There's three ways to get into that room.
There's three ways to get in that room.
-A fellow that uses 'ain't' as Billy Joe did earlier would probably say "Me and Mary Pat'll stay, too."

You're right. I fixed those catches. I struggled with Mary Pat and me. I correct my first graders all the time. Oh dear. Thank you for the kind review.

Who broke into the house and what are they looking for? These questions demand an answer, otherwise Paige may be going back to Boston. Cash is under a lot of pressure to solve this puzzle as as he does not want Paige to leave. Plenty of suspense and drama in this chapter.
