This should get some thoughts going. They aren't yellow are they? Revelations says the yellow people. LOL Excellent - in 55 words.
Cheers

Thanks for the exceptional review. I am quite honored. Where in the Book of Revelation does it write of the "yellow people"? Thanks again.

16:12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great Euphrates River, and it dried up so that the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance.
I guess the old people used the term "yellow people" (east)as that is what I was taught. Now you got me thinking.

That's a GOOD thing.

One can visualize being in a foxhole, but where?
Many Muslims may not be terrorists, but does not their holy book giv some instruction for killing those who will not convert?
Religious fanatics of all religions have sought to eliminate non-believers. Such wars destroy faith.
You have accomplished a goal of provoking thought...its ok.

NO, the Qur'an NOWHERE (at least to my knowledge) instructs Muslims to kill others. (Hindus in India lived under Muslim rule at one time.) I taught Islam on the college level for years. Where the conflict takes place is up to the reader; it's part of making the reader take part in the experience the poem describes. Thanks for an excellent review.

My take is that Muslims are attacking on American soil, as per "They were at war with America." Foxhole could be in someone's back yard, as
I wonder if the decades or centuries of hatred over imperialism and creation of the state of Israel will ever be unwound.
Good luck with the contest. Good story, should do well.
Cheers,
DW

I think the problem is more four centuries of colonialism than the creation of the State of Israel. Perhaps imperialism falls under the umbrella of colonialism. Thanks for an excellent review.

At least neither Tim nor the protagonist will require an abortion. To be serious for a moment, I'm sure you will agree with me that they (muslim countries) regard the USA as a place run by extreme terrorist militants. Thank you for a thought-provoking read.

I think you're on to something there, but I think the Muslim world is angry at the West because of four centuries of colonialism. (It's like some stranger moved into your house and rearranged the furniture.) Thanks for an excellent review.

Alvin,
Your fifty-five word contest entry is excellent, and you have created a strong storyline within the constraints. Throughout biblical history, God has used opposing armies to punish his people when they stray too far and refuse to return. With the hate, the Muslim extremists have for America, your story could end up being prophetic.
I certainly hope not, but who knows?

Teach, this is a very good 55 word story. It is almost a mystery story, unless read between the lines, then it becomes very clear. I enjoyed the reads and wish you the best in the contest. Your friend, Bob

Well my friend, in those 55 words you told a story.
I've read your work several time and I find something new every time.
As always, excellent work.

Your vagness as to place and person really gives this its power. You leave entirely up to the reader color in between the lines. Very interesting...

Yes, in much of my writing, my training in Japanese poetry, where the hearer/reader becomes an active participant in the reading/hearing and fills in the blanks, influences me, I think, to write an interesting story. Thanks for the excellent review.

Very powerful 55 word story you've produced here, Alvin. So we find ourselves in a war with the extreme terrorists- Our sins, for which we are now being bombed- Abortion, pre-marital sex and homosexuality. Proving how ignorant they really are to include homosexuality in that list. But now, a bomb heads your way, you being in a foxhole with your lover or friend who kisses you 'good-bye'. Great story, for all its 55 words, and how close to the truth is this for the future? I think very close. Betty

A very well written and powerful story in just 55 words. I could visualize the bomb coming before everything went black. Nothing to change. RJ
