I'm with Renee. Gator is evil and you have developed his character well. In the beginning, Madame GiGi did't smme to be a bad character but now we see that she is a cruel hard woman who was only kind to Marie as long as she felt she was going make money off her. The character of Marie is changing due to what has happened to her. I hope she will emerge stronger but not hardened. Maybe Renee kindness will be enough.

I doubt that Marie will get back even a part of her youthful love of life and decency. She has been brutalized to much. Just when she is trying to do what is right. I believe Reneed the sheriff will do all he can to take care of her. The story moves well. Good job, Carolyn

The writer does a good job of tapping into the emotions of the reader. The writer works the readers mind with the events introduced to the reader.
