This was great! Thanks for telling me about the cat, I didn't see that at first. Again, I love the pictures that are formed in my head as I read your poetry-dandelions, clover, etc. I especially like 'the best is yet to be discovered'. What an uplifting poem. Thanks for sharing.

A lovely poem with fun easy rhymes about how our perspectives change as we grow. I enjoy the optimistic outlook and the sense of wonderment that the poem instills in quite lovely.

This is a skillfully-written, exuberant, uplifting poem. It makes me think of several popular songs: One says, "I hope you never lose your sense of wonder." Excellent--especially the dandelion part

A delightfully positive poem that flows beautifully and contains such an important message. Your words are so true and thoughtfully conveyed. Well done, this is a memorable work that resonated with me. I was concerned for a moment, though, about your daughter having a family pet Potato. I was relieved to realise it was her cat's name and not a case of taking vegetarianism a step too far!!

Kindest of regards

Julie :-)

Julie, thank you so very much :-) You have me laughing hysterically - I can just see the pet potato perched in its little flower pot. LOL I appreciate your humor and your generous rating :-) Brooke

Oh Brooke, how very true. And how better to be reminded of that than by watching a child. Wonderful thoughts arising from your own observations. We have a similar photo in one of our albums of our daughter smiling with delight at a cardboard box. I am so often glad that our children arrived before the age of recreational technology - and to parents who had little money!
I have heard the word quotidian before but would have struggled to recall it without this reminder. What a very useful word it is. One to be filed away in the memory banks. You have used it very well to describe the apathy that can so often take us over.
I specially liked the verse about hunting for a clover. How hard it is to find time to spend so apparently unproductively.
A pleasure to read and to catch up with your lovely little man.
Best wishes
Sally

Quotidian is one of those lovely words I learned in junior high from a couple of English teachers who had a word of the day on the blackboard each day - lambent, lugubrious, eclectic - some of the others I remember from the board :-) I love those ladies, so passionate about the words they taught! Thank you so much, Sally.

The picture well says what the poem proffers.

Too often the quotidian
will smother life's surprises,
until we even cease to seek
the treasures life disguises. << This is tight and packed with insight.

And I can't remember the last time I whiled away the hours outdoors. Thanks for this, it's a good reminder.

Cheers, James

Life surely is full of surprises. Your poem describes this to a tee and the photo of your grandson is wonderful. The beauty of your poem is in its clever wording. Nice progression, rhythm and flow for an excellent read. Thanks for sharing, Deb

Brooke, I thoroughly enjoyed this 8/7 ode to the ordinary people, places and things of life. I also like the clever use of an extraordinary word (quotidian) to begin the poem about the so-called mundane. The poem is expertly composed (nuff said). The photo reminds me of my kids when they were tots getting into (and sometimes destroying) stuff--I miss those days. Regards, Hector

I like the term quotidian or the mundane. Too often many find themselves living in rues or routines day after day and miss out on many of life's joys. It is poems such as this one that makes one take assessments of his or her life and start to make some changes. I like Sawyer's curiosity!!
