hiya,
(firstly you have pinched a photo of my dog, we have a chocolate labrador x)
this once again is a well written chapter. making it easier to read, and i enjoyed reading this. i wish i had the courage to stick up to my doctor but i daren't because of the potential consequences. you have great use dialogue and have the balance. you have left the reader wondering what is going to happen next, you have created suspense
good job

Dwayne seems to be an unpleasant piece of work.
Just what Paige does not need right now.
Enjoyed the post, the natural conversation and the closeness shared by the women...really well written.
Looking forward to the next.

What a wonderful scene as she actually demands the doctor to leave. I bet that surprised the hell out of him! I love that she lives by what she believes in rather than just paying it lip service. Great dialogue throughout. Great character development. This lady just flew to the top of my list of favorite people :-) Brooke

This sounds like the Old South. I guess so people still react that way today. The doctor has a lot of nerve thinking it is his duty to scold a servant. I am enjoying the story.

Thanks for introducing us to Morgan and to the next potential conflict. This will give Cash an opportunity to shine a little light on the good doctor.
Excellent smoothly built segment.

I liked the way Paige stood up to the Doctor. First, he came into her uninvited or without waiting for someone to answer the door, and second, he's treating her friend as if she is not good enough to be Paige's friend. He needed to be set straight.
Suggestion.
"Dr. Walker." Paige's eyes widened. "I didn't hear the bell."
"I'm sure it's because of the laughter. I let myself in."
Nala stood. "I need to get back to work. Can I get you some ice tea?"
"That would be fine." His glare followed Nala.
"Dwayne, what brings you here?" Paige asked interrupting his stare.
"I heard you'd injured your ankle. I came by to see how you're doing and see if there's any way I can help." He stood.
QUESTION: Did Dr. Walker sit down without an invitation? If so, it is not mentioned. However it is stated, "He stood."
If he sat down without an invitation, he really was gutsy.

You're welcome, too, Barbara. I appreciated your help yesterday, too. As to his mother's thoughts, I'll need think about that some more.

Dr. Walker seems to be taking a lot upon himself, just walking in and then speaking to Nala as he does. He doesn't seem to be a very enlightened southerner, as I doubt that most educated southerners would have the same narrow-minded views about how to treat the help, etc. He even issues a warning to Paige about how someone in her position is expected to behave. Makes me wonder if he's behind some of the strange goings on in the house. You seem to be foreshadowing trouble he might make for Paige in the future. Paige is certainly one to stand up for what she believes in. Great chapter. judi

Hi Barbara,
This Dwayne is a creep and up to no good I suspect. Nice description of the pup slipping on the floor and blaming the rug.
I think she might want to have a slightly less 'open door' policy with the entrances to the house while she's recuperating!
