I love poems about World War I. Your words tell a story and this short poem reads like a movie in poetic form. It evokes a good feeling in the reader, peace on Christmas, even though it is only temporary.

Thank you dear friend; modern man could take a page from history, put down guns and think of their fellow man. Blessings, Kay.

It amazes me that fighting is ceased on Dec 24 -25, then starts again on the 26. It also warms my heart, this 24 hours of annual peace and good will toward men both in peace and during war.
Your poem shows what happens and brings that feeling of awe to the surface.

Hi Kace,
This is a great story poem and you have done a stellar job in writing about the war. Good alliteration in war/weary and flakes/fell, the word flow freely down the page and the theme is superb. Well done and good luck in the contest.....blessings, chey

You really had me standing on the war front with this one. Very well written.

You manage to being a price of history in this excellent poem.
I always think that most soldiers are servings their countries or
Lieder, most I am sure do not truly hate each other.
A pleasure to read this moving poem.

Hello Pili, Thanks so much for reading, glad you liked the poem, I agree - men kill because they are ordered to, to protect their countries. Blessings, Kay.

I was in tears during the commentary on the history channel about that event. Simple men, from simple homes, they should not have been there fighting for leaders warmly tucked up with their families that Christmas time, while their men were freezing and making friends with the 'enemy.'
After Christmas, they took up their arms and started killing each other again. Why! This is a really well written poem, Kay, it shows us ordinary people just want to live in peace. A worthy 6! xsx Sandra

Great work Aussie! A very moving and beautiful piece of poetry. You did the situation proud. That was one of the few nice moments of the whole war. Cheers Fez.

Such courage it took for these men to lay down their weapons and exchange pleasantries with each other. What a wonderful feeling it must have been when they did.
