That ear should be enough to get his attention, but it doesn't tell him if the visiter is still arond.

OUtstanding bit of tension as the janitor discovers the lights, the trashbag and finally the ear.

Excellent story, with some Indian cultural angles, which is interesting. I adore the suppressed love triangle among the cops. Just one thing: we "rein in" our lust (some of us, anyhow): we don't "reign" it in.
