Nice moral...in a humorous vein. Can't have the kayak and heat it too...:-) A lovely story cum poem. Enjoyed the read. All the best for the contest entry.

Very good. Can't have your cake and eat it. What a nice twist with a story line and a great pun to boot. You are a master and I enjoyed the double time verse.

Cute story in rhyme, though it appears you didn't follow the rules, which say:

Write a short fable-like story where the last sentence starts with: "And the moral of the story is".

The pet peeve of most contest sponsors (me included) is for entrants to ignore the rules, or follow them just halfway. However, if you find out that the last line can be varied, please let me know.

Thank you - of the five entries for this, only one followed that instruction to the letter. You will be pleased to know that that entry is currently leading the voting.
In this instance I fel that the particular rule was a little pedantic and the intention of the contest was to write a fable with the moral clearly stated at the end - I went as close as I could while still keeping to my meter.
I do agree with you that rules are important.

I really had to stretch to get that pun.
This a funny and adventurous entry for the contest.
I think a fable in rhyme should be perfectly
acceptable. Best of luck at the polls.

Peace, Lee

that's for shore?
