I liked reading your poem, in fact quite a creepy story. Although I am lucky not to have nightmares, I feel great empathy for those who do.

As a child there were places I hated so much to go on my own. For this reason I only dared getting something from the cellar singing.

Like your heroine I sang in a loud voice, my heart pounding, and was always very much relieved when I was among people again.

Well, you see, I survived. Good job, thank you for sharing.

Such a spooky read and yet chillingly powerful too.
Sure glad I read this in the morning and not at night time.

Well done my friend, you made me shiver.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pam. To say it was a sleep disorder would probably be an understatement. LOL Did she say her prayers ? Maybe all the smoke from the candles are causing her to hallucinate? Seriously it is an interesting write. I enjoyed it.

She wondered if they'd e'er leave,
or, forever plague her sleep?
Tonight she'd sing her song 'gain
and sleep right here by the fire.

dark, but perfectly written and an enjoyable read, Pam.
you're such a natural.

Sad air of fear and despair. I can see where people can get caught up in their stories and not be able to get away from their nightmares. Well captured, gun. The nights must be so long when they're plagued by old nightmares.
Good job.

Really Adri, so glad I'm not plagued by them but this poor girl is a sufferer. Sigh.

Wow oh Wow, this poem/story is filled with powerful descriptions. Different than you usually write, but still extremely good. I won't sleep alone ever again. LOL

And who can blame you for not wanting to sleep alone?

The scary dreams of night and nightmares abound, the darkness and shadows of terrors...

I love this:
"she held her breath deep and sighed;
then cried with relief at dawn"

A truly creepy and disturbing poem about demons and disturbed nights. Some very powerful imagery. The wallpaper image' brown with age and family dirt' has that double entendre that leaves us wondering about the family's history.Great use of alliteration and assonance in'danced dark shadows on the wall'.The old red rooster has its own associations with darkness and betrayal.

What a great review Mary!! This is one that is total fiction but carries a lot of weight with it, eh?

This is a powerful description of one who is undergoing spiritual warfare and in the darkness the demons attack. This stuff is real. I loved your images. I especially liked the wallpaper. It was during the post-depression years that I grew up and papered walls were all we could afford.

What a beautifully dark and interesting piece you present us with here. You cleverly impart an atmosphere with the clever wallpaper descriptions and your wording is exceptional. Makes for such interesting reading, Gungalo. Great work.

Kindest of regards

Mrs D :-)
