Hi Vance, This is one of the sadest stories I have read. You know sometimes fences are good. Sometimes there bad. It's the same with memories. I am so sorry I don't have a six for this. ****** You so deserve it. What a talent. Very well written. Lindaxx

Thank you so much for your kind remarks. There is wisdom in your comment about fences sometimes being good and I agree! Also, there are all kinds of different fences and walls....many that do indeed protect us. Blessings to you... Vance

I enjoyed your poem. A form of Free Verse. There are many FENCES in life it seems. Time my friend...it just keeps on rollin, yes memories... Keep looking through the fence and keep them a live...they are Sweet, and Bittersweet at times. Thanks for sharing your work.

dmt: Thanks for your generous review and I'm really glad you enjoyed this poem. It was a bit of a catharsis for me as I still miss him as we are now separated by a really big fence...Pacific Ocean. But he will be here for Christmas and joy will be found. Thanks and glad to see you again! Vance

That's a lovely and most moving story/poem. When a little child puts his/her arms around you and kisses you, you really have to watch it from making a fool of yourself and start crying. I can fully appreciate your feelings, believe me. My son did that a few times when he was a little boy.
Very nice piece, Vance.
Every good wish, Mike

Mike: those wonderful hugging times are to be remembered forever and I cried a lot writing this poem...as I am even now, just embracing the power and majesty of love in general but so hard or special with those uncomplicated little ones that have no fear of expressing what nature and God intended and gifted freely! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings! Blesssings, Vance

Yes, Vance, you've hit the nail on the head there. Their complete openness of expression. They want to give you a kiss and a hug -- so they do!

You touched my heart here in many ways. I hate those metaphorcial and literal fences at time. This made me think of my son and those opportunities I wish I'd taken advantage of when he was small and even now, there are so many stolen moments I miss out of as miles and miles seperate our states....Vance this is priceful and deserves more than a six.. it has my respect.

Melissa: Thank you so much for your generous six stars and your warm and thoughtful comments. The fence is enormous now as he is now in College in Canberra, Australia and I'm here in Vegas..but tickets are on the way for Christmas and hopefully, there will be no fences at least for the holidays!! Cheers! Vance

This is touching-it is filled with emotion. Struggling with joy and pain throughout. Fences are there keep us both in and out. They keep us safe from others and others safe from us. We spend life times building fences in our lives.

We find many fences in our lives; some keep the good in and some, the good out. What a lovely poem about a wonderful memory of time spent with a beloved child! What a wonderful memory to keep when, later in life, the inevitable fences come between you and him as he grows and moves out of your home and into his own. I hope it will be a home with no fence...

Meggreen: Thanks so much for your kind review and comments! Today, the fences reach from Las Vegas to Canberra, Australia but we shall open a gate at Christmas time and make some new memories with no gates!!! Your comments touched me and I thank you so much for that! Blessings: His Grayness...Vance
