Simply outstanding, as a buyer graphic call entry, this was very well written. I wondered when you said we hope to boarding plane if you meant to say hot but both words work well for that entry. This tugged at my heart as tears stream down my cheeks.
As a reader I can identify with memories hi had with my father and my son.

I have always felt a special bond to you, because of your moniker here. One of the most important poems in my portfolio,
Shades of Grey, was written with this concept in mind.

Blessings,

Brother Badger

Hi, Vance;
Thank you for sharing this lovely verse telling of a father and son adventure - but oh, so much more.

Fences keep us in or others out. They are boundaries that separate the compartments of our thoughts and deeds,

"Through the Fence was well written with great theme and imagery.
It flowed well and read well with no grammar issues as well.
Adjective Content was aligned well with Objective Content and Descriptive Measures aligned perfectly.

An excellent photo of fences of a concentration camp it seems. I did not know they were in Australia. But maybe you used fences as a kind of metaphor for school. You were taking your son to school. He was glowing with joy, but you were crying after dropping him off. Best wishes for the contest.

Hi Vance, this is very intriguing to me. One, your revival of an old post, your heat's emotion of crying ( yes, it's beautiful, because real men do cry) Two, the image looks like a prison or concentration camp. You write about the airport, was that image intended to show how strongly you felt about fences OR you couldn't find an airport image? I loved the poem, I think we have many restricting fences in our lives (some come as our own DEFENCES we put up )
Good revival, have a blessed day
Hug, Trisha

Thanks so much Trisha, for your lovely and uplifting review and stars! Yes, it was difficult to find the kind of fences that really matched the exact situation but I had to go with what I could find. I'm so glad that you loved the poem and I thank you for letting me know it was! It's always a joy to hear from you and hope to see you again soon! Blessings always: Vance

Vance, this is one of the finest poems I have read. I read it last night and slept on it, then reread it now. Immediately, this struck a chord. My first impression was to relate as a father, myself to specific memories and more so, the fences set up after divorce and/or simply being away from your kids. We each have memories that stick out and for no reason we may never understand; for me it was a day flying kites with my two oldest, with my grandson, it was a day fishing and a sick day from school. I have these for all my kids and most of my grandkids, the ones I know for, for sure. Well done. Bruce.

Thank you so much Bruce, for this uplifting and generous review! I am sincerely delighted to know that this work has touched you in a positive way as that is always my goal in writing. The circumstance of the time in Australia was deeply moving and stuck with me for years. .... and still does! I miss my boy who is now an impressive executive with awesome education, but still beyond the fence of distance, time, and money, and now sadly, my challenge with Alzheimer's which is truly a fence of it's own....to be sure. Blessings and thanks always Bruce and please stay close, as I will also! Vance

A very well-written heartfelt and very sad free verse poem. It is a memory of your child to cherish forever in your heart. The fences were part of the experience but it was not the main thing that captured your heart.

This is a very nice poem that I enjoyed reading. We miss their childhood, it seems to go so fast and yet we have the memories. Touching and emotional content, well written and interesting. Good luck in the contest. Marilyn

Oh, I am overjoyed that is poem has been revived. I never had the chance to read it before. This descriptive heart wrenching poem touched my every nerve. fences can be felt even if not visible literally. I hate your fences, also, my friend. This must be a true tale told; the emotions spewed out so vividly. Well written...perfect.
Blessings.

Dear Brigitte: your wonderful review and generous stars has made my day! I guess that love has many forms of delivery and the thoughts of these times in Australia tear at my very soul as even today, I'm still too many fences from my dear son, now such a lovely and successful man! My current battle with Alzheimer's is my final fence as Australia is now a journey too far and my son is now a grown man and very successful executive that I hope will be able to hop over the fences and come see me. Blessings and thanks to you for your lovely and generous stars, review!! Vance

Yes Vance, fences talks of imprisonment, confining, chains, but in this sense it talks of restrictions, in a sense, to love, my children came to mind when dropping and picking up from school, at my hot South Australia schools. (I now do it with grandchildren). The worst prison of all doesn't have physical restraints, but the bondage of the mind. John Donne was right. Beautifully written dear friend, well done, blessings, Roy
