You've written of a sad memory and balanced it with a happy, hopeful one. A great tribute to your late mother and the love you shared. Well done. :) nancy

What a lovely tribute to someone so special! I wasn't close to my mother, so envy people are are/ were. And what a gift, also, to be shown the final destination. A beautiful write, and good luck in the competition! :) Sharyn

I feel every bit of the heartache and wistfulness that such a great loss brings, and you make it all the more real by detailing loved ones in the writing. My folks are around but I'm reminded of prayers and regrets and appreciation for my dead grandparents recently I've had personally. And now that I believe in God, all the more so. Best wishes and blessings. Great work getting out those feelings in tribute and praise. I believe you when you say God allowed your visitation, I used to be pessimistic about such things, but no longer. Praise the Lord! 8)

I haven't been on fanstory much in the past couple of years, so I was especially happy to reconnect with your excellent writing and meaningful thoughts. I enjoyed reading memories of your mom. How blessed we both are to have had such loving and nurturing moms. My mother died at age 43 (breast cancer) - almost 50 years ago. Won't it be grand when we see them again.
Blessings,
ellen

Thank you so much, Ellen. I'm honored to read your very kind words. I haven't been here much myself over the past few years but I sure hope to change that. :-) It will indeed be so wonderful to see everyone again.

I remember losing you. The pain exploded in my chest like shrapnel, destroying my whole world with two simple words -- "She's gone." I didn't get to be there. Daddy told me not to come, afraid it would frighten you if I flew ten thousand miles to be by your side in those final days. Walking around my home after I hung up the phone, feeling like an orphaned child, I hardly recognized the adult woman reflected in the bathroom mirror. You were gone. Who was I now?
This is an excellent opening paragraph. My heart was breaking for you. Very well written.
I remember the night, four years later, that God allowed me to visit you for a few brief moments,
- I wonder what you meant by that? I would love to hear more.
Great read.

Now that the contest is over, I can direct you to the short article I wrote about that experience.
It's called "Paint Me An Angel." It's in my portfolio but here is the link:

This is a very dramatic and at the same time beautiful account of your mother's death. Very well written, I didn't see any spags, relax; this is a great story. Best wishes.

I wish I could give you a 6. This is written with all the love of a child losing her mum. We do remain children when we think of them, we never really grow up to them, and when we lose one, it is as if the world comes to an end. The sense of sadness is so painful. Does it go away, you have lost yours mum longer than I have lost my dad, and I still cry. Beautifully written and a sad pleasure to read. xsx Sandra.

I love the story. I love how you went though the steps of grief. It is the worse when you lose a loved one. You remember all the happy times but feel alone. You then reconnect with the loved one. Great work.
