A very touching poem that says it like it is. Your free verse is very catching and makes sure no one will forget. Very nice my friend.

WoW! This is very powreful! I know what you mean from talking with my mom and her friends. We took our mom to live with us when she couldn't live in her condo alone. But her friends weren't as lucky. If only grandkids KNEW how MUCH their grandparents had to offer... if they would just ask and listen. Both young and old benefit when they interact.

I know I have learned a great deal form the older generation. Patience is the most important thing I have learned. Thanks for the great review.

That is sad and something that happens so very often - only those homes aren't just filled with old now the young suffering from trauma for lack of placement - either way it makes one's life ever sad to be in such a state - thanks for sharing -

Very true. Long term care facilities aren't just for the old. Thanks for the review.

I like this reminder from the poet that says, "Hey, remember me. I'm still around and would like some attention!" Besides, the poet says he'll be gone soon anyway, so it's not too much effort to keep in touch.

Cheers,
DW

Very sad, but a big part of our lives. A family member or friend is in that situation and you did a great job summing it up. Very good work, I enjoyed it.

Oh dear, I think I find this poem quite sad. It is very beautifully written, and I know so well how the aged can feel themselves a burden to their families. Coping with the ageing process can be very stressful both for the aged and for those who have a responsibility for the care of the aged. Your verse kind of gloomily illustrates that point. Edgy, poignant and very affecting.

Oh yes. Nursing homes are filled with lonely people. My dad is in one. My mom visit him every day. He is one of the lucky ones. Here they are asking people to call it a Personal Care Home and not a nursing home. I guess that's the new thing. Your poem hits home. I can relate and a lot of people will relate too.

At first, I thought this was somewhat of a love poem, but then my mind moved to what you intended. Yes, this is sad. I don't think the guilt ever passes for some people. They just learn to suppress it so deeply that they can barely feel it.

Wonderful poem, G.

Thanks. Never had to put either of my parents in a home, but I was tearing up listening to these old people talk about how getting a card made their day. Too sad.

My wife and I have already agreed that Mom is living with us when the time comes. (Of course, I hope the shed behind the house is finished by then.) LOL
