You can include me in those statistics. I'm not American, but I also suffer from hypertension and it's genetic, being a common problem in my family. Like you, my arterial pressure is well controlled by drugs, but I also decided to make some changes in my life style. I exercise and walk two miles at least four times a week, most times five. It's become part of the routine.
Like you, I also meditate. I have slowed my heartbeat considerably through regular practice and through a recent health crisis, I credit the exercise and meditation with my quick recovery. I guess at some point, one has to take responsibility for health problems. Good reminder, Bev. A well-written, well appreciated post. Thanks for sharing.

Your article on high blood pressure and its affect on one's health is very interesting and informative. How meditation helps one to lower their pressure is also helpful. Good read. pnkglo

I have tried mediation a few times, but unfortunately I spend too much packing for the trip and never get there. Or my ADD kicks in and I can't calm my mind. Thank you for sharing your post.

This is great! Very well researched and written. I particularly liked your words on meditation. Like too many mid-life Americans, I am too busy chasing the Dream to pay attention to my health. Had a wake-up call at my last physical, high blood pressure, and was adivised to slow down, change some of my diet, and check back. I think that the simple, direct approach to meditation will help.
Thank you for this.

Very interesting. I too have given up most of my daily meds in favor of natural things... lots of herbs and supplements that have done a BETTER job in reducing pain and swelling from arthritis! I have tried meditation but my mind gets bored just thinking about my body. :)

Great article. So necessary for wellness.

Only one spag:
-My life is as busy are(as) most

You mentioned that there was 'measurable changes in gray-matter density...' I'm assuming those changes are for the better. You didn't specify. I know that's being picky but to say that the density improved would add a needed punch to that statement.

Bev, your article should be taken seriously by everyone reading it. It's so well presented and siting the references gives it added clout. It's not just opinion. It's finally becoming fact.
I learned what they called 'Relaxation' years ago. It sounds very similar and has been a helpful, no necessary, part of my day for forty years.

It was good to see an article about wellness.
You rock.

This is a very interesting and informative article, Bev. Personally, since I never see a doctor because I don't have health insurance, daily I take a garlic supplement to help control my hypertension.

Thanks for sharing this. JW

Note: You may want to review the following:
but I'm supplementing it with increased excercise (exercise) in conjuction (conjunction)with ...

increasing the level of my daily excercise (exercise) and

and short term (short-term) memory

and praciticing (practicing) daily gratitude

-- sixty six (sixty-six) million --

May I recommend the spelling and grammar-checking website
http://www.polishmywriting.com/. It's absolutely free to use and does a great job at catching spags.

Excellent advice, Bev. I agree wholeheartedly with the need to spend a few minutes each day in meditation. I crave it. I'm sure you will touch people with your sharing of advice. You're right - it's free and very good for us. I took yoga for a while - not sure why I stopped going - just got busy. I'm going back starting next week. I found it so 'cleansing'.

Love your attitude to life.

Love you too.
