I have been handcuffed by the 6 police, or you would have certainly gotten one for this wonderful presentation. I read so much these days, what with reviewing, responding, and recording (my own material, that is...) that sometimes straight prose, no matter how good (and verse, for that matter), leaves me with 'cotton-mouth'. And then a ray of sunshine breaks through the lowering skies, and there is my Visionary friend, hailing me from the Pacific shores with another show of dimmed lights and magical words, holding a seat just for me...

Your greatest literary gift is your dialogue, and I suspect you'd have that even if your heart wasn't dipped in grease paint and bathed in the spotlight. This was an excellent treatment of the genuine pain, anguish, and loving frustration that children of dementia patients endure. It was genuine, heartfelt, and passionately raw. And you won me over with it... again.

Beautiful work, my dear friend.
Salud!
Wes

hey thanx Wes! glad you woke up for mine ... yes, I know the cotton mouth(brain) feeling!! - you record your own material?? i.e. in writing, or performing??? (notice my notice twitching with curiosity) ... damned to the 6 police!!! but a virtual is good enough today!! thx, Sharyn

My recording is in written format... I was going for the 'r' alliteration, there... and anyway, my vocalizing would not be so hot, I'm afraid... I was once told by a lovely woman, in the throes of passion, that she loved me for my willowy limbs and boyish face, but, as for my voice, well... I believe her slant was that I had no hope of ever being a radio talent... I made her the best omelet in the morning, a toast to her honesty...
I'm no Jim Dale, in other words.
    Skoal, dear lady!

aah - well we won't hold it against you! my husband is TONE deaf, trust me - and I always believed ANYBODY could sing, until I heard him. Unfortunately my son has the same God-awful talent! like fingernails down a blackboard! but they have other wonderful talents ... hmmm ... I'll have to think about that for a while ... lawnmowing ... shopping ... hmmm

This was my first reading a script for reviewing purposes and I have to say you made it a very pleasant experience. The humor flows from the characters, rather than being forced like a lot of it is nowadays in sitcoms etc. You did a great job!

thx Ed - so glad you tackled a script! theatre scripts are much easier than screenplays I find ... so glad you came along for the ride. Blessings, Sharyn

You did a fantastic job with this. My mom (and dad) at 90 yrs. old just went through the exact same thing. My precious sister decided to bring them in to live with her because they truly could not be left at home. and neither of us wanted them where they couldn't be together (married 65 years!) It's heart breaking in some ways (mom has Alzheimer's)but we know now they are safe and well cared for. This was a great piece.

thx so much vfb - I think a lot of us on the site are at this stage right now, yes? it's almost, as one of my old friends says, "a rite of passage". I hate to think of it that way, but I suppose it is true. Tx so much for reading & reviewing!
    Best wishes,

Visonary, I absolutely loved it. What a grand story, with a grand, proud old woman! She was darling. I could visualize her with your words. I could visualize each character. Fun fun story. Now, my twist,,,, she goes back to the hospital, sighs, falls asleep with a smile on her face (she got her way, right???) and peacefully goes to her make in her sleep. (Just my muse mixing with yours.. LOL) Thanks so much for sharing this cute play with us!

I'd have given a six if I could. Should have had some to give, but no option. Great read. Well done. I have a chilling association with that Hobart hospital from the 3am call we recieved from our eldest son to tell us our youngest son was in there with a broken neck after a car accident. One bone broken in 5 places. Long recoup. and now, ten years later, he's married to a French girl, have two lovely daughters and is captain of a 120 footer cruising the Med.

This was lovely, and oh so true for me. The OT were deciding if my little Aunty could return to my home after a hospital stay and short "rehab" stay for pt/ot. I am glad to say she was able to come home. I'm not sure this little lady got to return home for good. I loved this story, brought back all kinds of memories for me. My Aunty was fiesty, as well. Thank you!

I haven't read too many scripts so took a bit to get used to the format but thoroughly enjoyed the story. Well written, visionary. Look forward to the next performance.

Regards, Jen

I enjoyed this as much as I've enjoyed your previous work that I've had the privilege of reading. What a lovely script. You are a master (mistress?) of dialogue.
One little thing I think you'll want to fix. Check the line that begins, "My dad died years ago but MOTHER'S..."etc. I think you mean "mother." It happens....

This was so funny but so real at the same time. I could see it all playing out in front of me as if I was watching a movie.

Your image and direct approach I think guides not only the reader but the characters.

It had great depth and humor over the small stuff. The mother was just perfect and funny....I want to be surrounded by what I love....then life is perfect for the time being.

Excellent work and a great humorous script.
Thanks for sharing.

Well! Being a lover of ellipses all looks fantastic to me. I just love this brought tears and a smile and a chuckle and I am so with the Mother here, important to be surrounded by things you love. I live basically in one small room in my son's house, but I am surrounded by my books, Madonna collection and the soft floral and gentle scenes pictures that make me feel very good in a very lonely old age. I could move to live with friends but I would miss 'my stuff' too much...so this really touched home for me and I thank you - Dinah
