I did "watch" and listen carefully to the dialogue, saw all the scenes clearly, had great empathy for mother and daughter alike, (not the sisters so much) and think you have told this story very well. It could be almost anyone's story who has ever dealt with an aging parent. It is a story that should be told and you did it very well. I liked this and enjoyed the play and the message both...very much.

Thx so much MM! I didn't want to draw the sisters too clearly - just wanted them to be a "presence" - wanted the real story to be about mother, and aging issues ... so glad you enjoyed and a huge THANK YOU for tackling my script! Best wishes,Sharyn

Yes... I thought you did it exactly right. Not every character is supposed to be a "main" character, and I realized that was your intent. Well done on all fronts. :p

Another wonderful script Sharyn. You really created, as always, that effect of watching it in a theatre. The blackouts added another dimension :) Tina

I really like the concept. The number of changes to character were just about right to my inexperienced eye. The dialogue was fine. My feeling is there wasn't enough humor or pathos to keep me entertained, and the Mother sort of lacked luster.

Yours is the first script I've ever read. I wouldn't really know how to review, but I can certainly comment on the 'show'.

It was great! It pulled me in right away. I think you've got the mentality of an elderly person just right. Most old people dread losing their independence, their home and possessions. They cling to it like a life raft.

The OT got it right: But - we can't wrap old people up in carpet and cotton wool, can we? This is where she's happy. This is where she needs to be.

Et voila.

I enjoyed it very much, and I admire the skill it takes to set something like this up.

This work has reached the exceptional level

I loved so many things about this script. For one I can relate to it, being that my grandma has bad dementia as well and is a flight risk. Also this story had such an everlasting theme. We all just want to be home and sometimes when we are it can bring us back to our youth. Anyways you portrayed all the characters with such brilliance. Great job!

Wow...this is sooo beautiful. It's like a continuation of the other non-fiction prose about your mother. The feelings of yours and your mother's and even your sisters can be felt by the audience. Oh, and was there really an Indian doc named Dr. Patel? Gujrati, if you'd like specification (useless info, but still, they all seem to be Gujrati)

Anyway, finally you've posted another stage play I love so much. Thanks!

thx so much Opal! and yes, there are LOTS of Indian docs working in Australia these days - and "Patel" is simply one of the most common names ... but if Gujrati is MORE common then I'll grab it for sure! Glad you enjoyed it! Best wishes, Sharyn
reply by Opal H. on 23-Jul-2012
Don't get me wrong...Gujrati isn't a last name! Or at least, not a common one. Patel is the most common Gujrati last name. And those Gujrati folk always seem to travel the world - hence the surplus Patels! That's the way it is in India - every state has a different language, different set of common last names, etc. The state of Gujrat is where Gujrati is spoken and hence Gujratis live.

aaah - shows you how much I know!! yes, we certainly meet a LOT of Patels!!! appreciate the cultural lesson Opal!!

The young study their history and takes test. The old are walking History who passed the test in real time. This is very well written.

Congratulations on another great read, Sharyn, you capture the little foibles of old age perfectly, and all the characters are easy to relate to. This is full of gentle humour, compassion and (dare I say it) love. LOL
I think any audience would love it, well done!
