What a beautiful tribute to someone had died. We all see our fathers as the mighty Oak that's upon the mount to guard our land and protect our home. This well written, long form sonnet, and I enjoyed the read.

Excellent piece! The life of a tree parallels our own. Everything that lives must accept death. That last line is just perfect! :)

If I could give you a 6 star rating I would. I'm out. What a great poem. Perfect structure and incredible imagery. More imporantly, the message. You made my day with your beautiful words. Good luck in all your endeavors.

This is a well written Shakespearean style sonnet. The meter is excellent, as are the perfect rhymes. And in the Autumn, time to chop down the old tree--the cycle of life.

Cheers!

What a touching tribute to your father's memory: this lovely and well-crafted sonnet. The final couplet is indeed powerful. [The tiniest of personal nitpicks: I think the "Summer" and "Autumn" do not need capitalization here.] My best regards, Jeanie Mercer

Thanks, Jeanie - possibly the capitalisation was because of the personification of the seasons - it felt right somehow, though I know it's not traditional.

What fun is was to study this one Steve. It's so rich in its metaphors it took me a few readings to absorb it all. So eloquently expressed with deep poetic style I could quote most of it as favorite lines, but alas, my typing skills are so poor, It takes me forever to review so bear with me.

I love your volta as you so tenderly express the reality of the situation.

I must admit to being a bit thrown off with last line and the repetition of the phrase "it's time" but ignore me Steve, for I'm sure it's just a personal preference and I applaud its originality.

Best wishes to you and thanks so very much for sharing. I have an 84 yr old father that just got out of the hospital so I can certainly relate to this commentary on mortality.
Cheers and be well,
Katherine

Thanks, Katherine for the thoughtful review and the personal response (as well as the six stars!)
Part of the feeling that permeates through that ending is a response to my father-in-law's situation - he is 85, has skin cancer, prostate cancer, heart irregularity and has now broken his hip. All of this has taken its toll on his mind as well. He is in a home now, confused, lonely and angry - guilt and unhappiness all round with no end in sight and more operations planned soon. My mother in law is still relatively fit, but has had her own battles with cancer. There is no doubt in my mind what the best outcome would be....
Thanks again - hope you didn't mind me getting that off my chest.

Your Sonnet Poem, Come, Woodsman, is well written with an excellent rhyming scheme and a smooth and easy cadence too. I like the story of the life of the tree. It tells the of the circle of life. GREAT POEM!

You did a good job on this verse. The flow from verse to verse is good and the rhyming is good as well. I think you told the story well, and made me anxious to see what the ending would be. You summed it up perfectly.

What a lovely and poignant poem. A fine tribute to your father. Yes, we do grow old and die, and it's sad but inevitable for everyone and everything. I judge mostly on content and it was very good, but the poem itself seemed excellent to me.
