A gnarled old tree has a story to tell, but its silence is maintained by the woodman's axe. This is very well written with an interesting flow of words.

Let us all salute the once mighty sapling. Like all living things we are cut down when our usefulness is done. When we are young and strong and vital we are mighty in our youthful strength. How tall we stand, but as the years intrude and begin to take their toll, we become bent and gnarled with age, and when the time comes we are cut down. Your poem speaks eloquently of life and the end of life. Great job.

Very good description of the life of a tree as well as the life of a man, once strong and, able to protect his loved ones, who has grown old and weak from the passage of time, bent over and struggling as he nears the end of life. Just a thought.

Thank you - I thought my poem actually went even further by suggesting that in some cases it is better for the life to end - nobody really has picked up on that.

Sonnet structure and rhyme is well done. Creative imagery of the tree's life being the language you would use as a tribute to your father. The metaphor is touching, full of strength and resolve and life must end (as we know it).
