I like this poem. It reminds me a little of the old
Frank Sinatra song, A Very Good Year. I think the child lives on in most of us, and sometimes we resent growing up.
I'm able to feel your contradicting thoughts. Wee done, and good luck at the polls.

Peace, Lee

Thank you, Lee, for the great review. Actually, twelve was not such a good year in other ways, but I sure did like being in those trees. Must be a bit of unevolved ape left in me somewhere. ;)

As long as we don't cut all the trees down, kids will climb them.

This really is quite a lovely, honest and insightful exploration of the rich theme that is the circle of life. The idea of relecting on each stage of life through the eyes of your twelve yearold self is delightful and that our real age does not always tally with how we feel.I feel sure this will evoke in every reader a memory of childhood when life was blissful and simple. It is sad that we dont always appreciate it until we get older!

Thank you, Eliza, for the fine review. Yes, that's true. In fact, when we are twelve all we really want is to be OLDER! :)

I love the progression over the high points in her life and the repeat lines about sitting high in the tree etc. That no matter how old she is she is still that twelve year old little girl.
The mother's face in the mirror and grandmother's long gray hair really hit a home run. We do see them as we age. LOL

I think many of us see ourselves in your story. It is lovely.

Good luck in the contest.

A long travel down the years poem. Nicely written. Curiosity " You wrote When I was 12 I wore a mini skirt." You did not say that when you were 35 (LOL). My compliments I enjoyed did thoroughly

The mini skirt was at age 20, in the college stanza. They were not in style at 33, but I could have carried it off just fine. ;) :p

Thanks for reading and for a fun review!

This is a lovely progression of reminescences, and then a quickie look at the inevitable future ... but oh that time when you were 12 - what magic! one typo: "stoppng at my favorite tree" you might want to fix ... sweet piece though - I really enjoyed it!

I wish I had a six to give you! This was beautiful! Nicely written. Great artwork chosen. Good imagery portrayed. Nice smooth flow of words. Loved the transition from sweeping grandma's front porch to becoming an old woman and sweeping your own front porch. Nice! Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for reading and for the great review. You sound like me. I run out of sixes in two days...I just like so many things! But I sure do appreciate the thought.
