I have read this poem before; I do not know why I didn't review it because I absolutely love it. Perhaps it was because there is so much sadness in my life that I simply couldn't at the time. "I can see the exit door, but the funny thing is...inside I'm still just twelve years old, wanting nothing more than...well...you know.

This poem deserves six stars, but I do not have any, and I don't think I have any left to give you because of the thirty days anyway.

Sorry I didn't review it earlier...

Dawn, thank you so much for digging into my porfolio and reading this most personal poem. I'm so sorry for your sadness. Would you like to talk about it?

Phyllis, I love the structure of this poem as you progress through stages of the speaker's life.
Excellent alliteration and descriptive detail throughout.
I like the balance of warm nostalgic tone and humor in your observations.
Many readers will identify with the speaker's attitudes toward life, the little dissatisfactions that accompany each stage and the wishes for a simpler, more magical past.
And what a stunner of a closing stanza. :-) I'm so glad I read this. Brooke

Thank you so much for this wistful journey. You are them all, especially that 12 year old sitting in the tree. This poem flowed flawlessly and beaurtifully. Thanks.

Thank you so much! I usually don't enter contests that only last one day, but this one was SO EASY to write. I'm thrilled that you thought it good enough for six stars... thanks again for your generosity! :)

I've found it is true that most of the time we remain a child on the inside, no matter what the mirror tells us. It's weird, reliving in our minds the lives of so many of our relatives who've gone on before us. A thoughtful poem. Go luck to you. Jeanie Mercer

Well your free verse poem is wonderful in that you go from a 12 year old right up through the ages to a 12 year old again. Beautifully told.

Your I am Poem, Twelve , is beautiful. I too wish I was twelve sitting high in a tree with my buddies! We used to play in the woods out back of my house. We liked to play war, GI joes, BB guns, ride our mini bikes, hide and seek... Life was wonderful!
GREAT poem!!! I am my father right now.

To return to the simple, easy days of childhood! But I don't think I would. What a beautiful poem, all areas of a life, the changes that time brings. Thank you for sharing, good luck in the contest!

Thanks, Bina, for this wonderful review. I wouldn't mind going back to childhood, but then I'd have to go all the way thru school and college again! No, think I'll just stay where I am, like you. :)
