I can see why this one took first place, Phillippa, well, for me anyway. It's the objectivity plus the absolute honesty of the telling. I love the tittle, AIN'T. No subjective write this one and you embrace the subject whole heartedly. NOT for the faint of heart but for the earthy and the realist. Patience and tolerance: two very understated words that are key to the success of all relationships. Kenny

Awww thanks K...I appreciate your beaut review and of course a sixer. I find it hard to write about my real relationship in a gushy sense cos it just AIN'T like that...never has been and I don't think it ever will be. LOL...it takes two very special people NOT to get sick of each other. I appreciate you stopping by.

so perfectly true...loved the honesty and how you traveled from the early stages of goof to the realities of stretch marks..wet spot was my favorite...

Phillipa, congratulations on your contest win :-)
I love the humor and the realism of the statement that love is patience when you want to wring his neck - talk about something bound to resonate with every reader :-)
And the love is tolerance stanza makes the perfect companion :-)
I absolutely love every example you give, from sleeping in the wet spot to pretending not to notice your guy welling up during a sentimental movie scene :-)
I'm laughing hysterically at the gutted cow pushing out a baby
This is a marvelous look at love my friend, and it has your special touch all over it :-) I have no sixes left, or one would be yours. Brooke

Wow thanks Brooke. Free verse NOT my strong point as you know but maybe it was a good topic to explore with a closet pen! LOL Thanks for putting YOUR original spin on this review. Hope Grandmahood or Nannahood (whichever you prefer haha) is agreeing with you. Many thanks for the wish of a sixer and such beautiful thoughtful comments.
    Cheers Phillippa xoxo

Yes, loved it. It deserved to be a contest winner. Thoughts I can certainly relate to, having been married over 40 years now. Great work.

Wow Ralph you blow me away with a sixer for this as free verse definitely NOT my strong point. I appreciate your dynamite review and encouragement...having been together 22 years with current partner and married for 8 of them, the long haul AIN'T a bed of roses...Like they say, For better, for worse. LOL
    Cheers and thanks again

Looks like I got here to late! It has the ribbon already.
Congrats!!!!!!!!!

You have spoken volumes about the good and negative of a
love and relationship arrangement.

I'm not that fond of this write style though I really like
your addition. Great work!

Absolutely fabulous! You did a grand job
with this prompt and it surely signifies
all the things that true love goes through.
You hit on almost everything there is in
real life. This is what it is all about.
Being there, accepting and loving in such
a way that you do not find any faults.
Unconditional love is what I call it.
Lots of luck.

Depending on the years of marriage, you are right, there can be a lot more, but IMHO you have captured so much of love- the for better or worse parts, in this poem. Love the flow of the free verse. Worked well and many times a repeat word doesn't work, but in this case it surely does.

Your examples are awesome- from the the throne room door being open, sleeping in the wet spot,. My favorite stanza is 'love is being at home in your own skin and sliding around on top of his.' Well done and you should do well in the competition. Joyce

Oh my goodness I was wondering where this was going! love blah blah blah and I thought "oh no, ANOTHER one!" and then you pulled the rug out from under me, you naughty thing and I started to laugh at the reality check. How delightful - love your sense of humor!
