Nicely written piece inspired by a supine cat, ostensibly resting until new curtains and fish tank lid have been installed.

'The clock on the mantle ticked like the clack of a railcar.'

This line reminded me of nights spent at my great aunt's house, where the relentless ticking of her grandfather clock sounded like the clacking of a railcar.

Hi there! I have always found it impossible to sleep away from my own bed. The sounds in other homes are different...the scents. Especially as a child I guess. A clock would keep me awake. I use a fan! WHite noise to over ride other nonsense! :) Anyway, thank you for this kind and fun review! Susan

Susan, you are SO GOOD!
I love this story. And I specially love the way you let the reader know from the outset that this is a cat. None of those tricks of letting us thing it's a person or a child.
Very funny and utterly charming.
I have never come across a "canid", which is not in my dictionary, but I'm guessing it's a derivative of canine and such words. ie a dog. (Not god, as I just typed!)
This cat is adorable. I love the way you have represented him. And the imagery is also fantastic, such as the clock ticking.
I would take out the comma after "treasure chest" (how well observed is that tiny touch?)
and I believe it should be "unpertUrbable", but apart from that not a thing I would change. It's wonderful, really wonderful.
Sally

Hi Sally! Wow! Bless your heart. This was another just off the wall for fun. That photo is just the berries. What a doll. OH! I double checked and canid is a word...sort of the scientific term for canine. I like it. And I'll check the commas too. Thanks for this great help!! LOVE, Susan

Very cute, Suse. I suppose the picture inspired the story.
I like Chester's pluck.
'The clock on the mantle ticked like the clack of a railcar.' -- Great line.

Canid -- I never heard that word before, but I'm sure it's some derivative of cannis.

Good work.

Peace, Lee

Hi, Lee Oh, yes, canid is the same as canine. I looked it up to make sure! And that word that I asked you about, 'segged' is spelled 'segued'. It means 'meshed together'? Or melded...? If I remember right. Anyway, I'm always happy if you like my efforts. I've had several little "Chester's" and each was a sweetie. How is your kitty, Hazy? Hope okay...

Sorry this is such a late thank you Lee. It hurts to stay in front of the computer very long. hugs, Susan

Sounds like a very busy cat. This is , as usual, very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Maybe Chester should be in a cage.

LOL! Oh Charley! Leave it to you to think of the obvious! A cage! Yes! I had a cat years ago that I wound up putting in a spare room because he was like this. His name was Tao and the neighbor killed him with Lindane/sheep dip. Such nice people. He died a horrific death, and I was out looking at hay instead of caring for him. When I left, he darted inside, his death beginning. I won't forgive myself for not noticing he was acting odd. I found him in my closest...spittal and froth in his mouth. God. Now I'm in tears. Thanks for listening...s.
