One of my favorite subjects----cats. I have two that hate each other. They shred nothing in the house--use only their scratching posts----BUT if accidentally put together, they shred each other!!! Noises like you've never heard in this world.
This is such a cute short story in the point of view of Chester, the cat. Great detail of sights and sounds. What respectable cat wouldn't be tired out after all that work?
Fantastic photo!
Too bad this wasn't in a flash fiction contest. It is very well told and perfect for that.

Hi there J.P.! You should be here tonight! There are two cats fussing just outside the window. There's a wild one around that beats up our barn cats. I guess no rest for the wicked...What a howling! I'm too tired to go break it up too. Little Chester could be so many people's cats! I've had a couple too like that. And thank you extra too for your great encouragement J.P. -- you're the best...xoxo. Susan

Hey Suse - love this little vignette!
Chester, no doubt, is king of the house. I love that about cats.
"The clock on the mantle ticked like the clack of a railcar"is a great line. Says more than provide a description of the sound - it brings up some ancient internal wisdom about the passage of time.
"He didn't even have a tail to bite" This one, too, hit me with a double meaning. Billy didn't have a tail to chase either! No doubt adding to his lack of a love for play.
Fun story. Great use of the photo!

Chester's a rotten cat, no two shakes about it! At least the dog doesn't destroy the house! Was Chester one of your delights, perhaps? :-)
You referred to doggie as 'canid'. Was that a typo or just a word tgis mostly feline lover is unfamiliar with?
If Chester were mine, it''d be curtains for him, next time he pulled a stunt like that! :-)

Hi there! I know, Chester is onery! BUT lovable...I had several cats like this. One named Tao that actually knocked pictures down and leapt up making the ones on hangers be crooked. I had to put him in a spare room for a while when I had to be gone. Anyway, Thank you for this great review...what a joy! HUG! Susan

Oh, my Nelson was just like Chester as a kitten. I had never had such a naughty mischief maker until him. Now, he's older and has settled down (Phew!) I loved this Suse!

Nelson was on tranquilizers the first year of his life due to all the damage and havoc he was causing! HOnestly, I've never had a cat literally swing from the chandeliers and destroy curtains room to room!!

Hi Susan:)
Little Chester sure deserved his nap. My two cats used to sleep that way when they were kittens. They just dropped after their destructive playtime ended. I wonder, were they poised for a tummy rub or just too tired to roll into a ball of fur?
Chester destroyed curtains, mine took out our Venetian blinds.Fortunately, we had no fish tank. Did you have a burial service for Trish?
Thank you for tis look at a kitten's hard night of work.
Did you happen to see my latest poem, 'Technological Kitten?"It must be the season for kittens.
Love an Irish Hugs for a great vingette.

Oh Roger! Thank you. And I read your kitten poem!! Just a joy. HOW I love kittens. Any small creature...well. Except spiders. And roaches, and ... lol! I'm smiling about the fish. I should add the children having a service for her. Another reviewer said, "A moment for the fish" so, this is something to ponder! Thank you so for a great review...I always want to keep trying when you enjoy my efforts! Happy days to you my friend...xoxo. Susan

This reminds me of my previous beagle. He was so sweet, but would destroy the house while I slept. I would wake up in the morning with toys, shoes etc in bed with me. Great story and how true that some animals are just plain naughty!!! Hugs~Debbie

Hi Debbie! How are you? I thought of you a lot today as I waited at the darn doctors office. I'm getting real tired of it too. This is so funny about your dog. He just wanted you to wake up and play! HOW sweet. Write me a story about him?? Please be well my dear Debbie. xoxo. Susan

Once again my friend, you totally cracked me up. I have friends who must have Chester's clone because he is just as full of it. Nicely written and down right funny

Hi Bear! LOL! I'm just delighted you enjoyed both these stories my friend. This photo just begged to be explained! BUT in reality, I bet this little guy was asleep in a typical ball and the owner stretched him out and snapped this real quick. SO cute. Thank you for enjoying it Bear. Susan
