Well it is me...Mossmouse, and this is for you young lady. Your tale is truly amazing as it walks us through the spectre of life, letting others tell us what to do and what to be, while at the same time piling up our shortcoming in a wheelbarrow. Then dump it and come back for more help and correction. We each have a compass and a gas pedal and only rarely do we need someone to affect either; just please keep me filled with gas and keep me away from the metal of selfish decisions. Tears and anger well up as the crowd of "you cannot do this" and that mounts up but they are just the spectators of life...not the doers! As writers, we lay it out there every time we push the "upload", "save" or send button and we, in time, become immune to the fear...the fear of the dangling participle, or a misplaced comma or God forbid, a fragment. Beware the soul that tells us that a child or loved one of ours is deficient in some area of life because it is just not true, ever! I am writing a story about a friends child who has Downe's syndrome and what a precious, funny, lovely young man he is. The story is about how he changes 2 lives, his fathers and a total stranger. So, one more time let me tell you that you are truly "plugged in" and be both fearless and resolute in all that you do. So there you have it. Long, Yes but heartfelt...your new fan Mossmouse

Moss Mouse, you're a gem of encouragement for me! Thank you SO much! It's a piece I'd wanted to write for a long time. It came upon me when someone in my writing group told me what a wonderful school this was and I nearly imploded. So I went home, wrote this piece, and brought it back the next week. Read it aloud, and saw tears in peoples' eyes, so I knew I'd touched them in the right place. Bless you - and you can never write too "long" for me - I will always appreciate it!

Excellent! I suppose everyone has a child, grandchild, or someone that is different. Mine is my granddaughter, charming, interesting, driven, focused and doing well. But will forever more, be different. Go Nalu! Anything is possible, with a Mom like yours! (I agree, she should refrain from "the" word) but she will get you to where you can go! Thank you, let us educate the educators!

Well at least she said "the" word only to herself my dear - and refrained from REALLY letting the lady in question feel the full brunt of her wrath which was, as you see, quite considerable! Bless you for reading!

I was right there with you in your righteous indignation. I usually don't like curse words in my reading, but yours were so perfectly placed, I wouldn't take anything out. I loved the ending, too. Way to go, Nalu!

Thanks so much Ezmeralda! and yes, I use curse words sparingly - my mother used to say "only when sorely tried" - so make them count. Bless you for reading and glad you enjoyed it!

Excellent! You carried this character monologue perfectly throughout without missing a beat. It flowed so well. It was easy to follow her thoughts actions, everything. Being a mother of a child with special needs, who I ripped out of school to home school .. A+! :) Great job. I very much enjoyed this. Okay, I could have done without the "f" word, but I understand the emphasis of the mother's grief. That was an exceptionally rotten school, though. Yesh! Excellent mom!

Thank you for taking the time to read a longer piece - and don't worry, I'm VERY selective about the f- words - they don't fly often!

This is really excellent on so many levels. And it's perfectly written for a scene in a movie (hint hint). What an amazing woman you are, and I'm so honored to have read your story about Nalu. Sounds like you two have each other's back. Bravo on a superbly written piece. Warmest regards, Bev

Thank you so much Bev! It was good to write this piece, believe me. It's very therapeutic to take something like this, then turn it into a "story" ... makes it a little more distant because you get to look at it as an observer of the action rather than being a participant ... know what I mean??

Yes, I really do. I think that though there's some detachment, you still imbued this with a very authentic voice. Take care! Bev

Thank you! Great Commentary and Philosophy Script! What I thought about after reading this is - when something is not right why is it that we are not starting where someone is
and where they are right now! I thought this flowed and connected well. It was an interesting read!
Thank you..........harmony13

I think its written perfect don't change it and so what everyone is different why are people so ashamed of it we all make up the world different means you are very special you are unique and what's wrong with that love the story don't change it cos that's what makes you unique the way you write

Very well written an a pleasure to read. I also love the message. Not everyone learns the same things the same way - and that's how it should be :)

It's typical girl. Don't even let it bother you for a second. These high priced school pretend to care so they can get your money. The kids make no difference to them!! True.

So interesting that responses to my piece have been on such an emotional level - which means my "message" (hate that word in this context - sounds preachy) is actually reaching its mark. Thank you!

First let me say that I applaud this writing immensely! Our babies don't belong in society defined little boxes. I was told that my baby boy was slow because he refused to speak. What they never understood was that he just spoke when he wanted to and not when others demanded it of him. He was stubborn with his own mind and as he grew older with very little words and into school with very little words I was told the same thing. What they also didn't see in him was that he learned by watching and we all know that you can't learn while you speak. While the other kids were spending all of their time with pointless words my little boy was intently learning everyone and taking it all in. We found that he was gifted by the time he was 4 and could actually speak better than most adults and used proper language, which I didn't even do! He just didn't see the point in wasting time on words that were meaningless... You are a great mom and this was a perfect example of a mother's intuition!!
