The hole that death creates
Will fill again with life << very true
Cemetery is spelled with all E's and no A's in it.
Will our greatgrandchildren remember us? Unlikely... our time here is short and the memory of us not much longer. I love how you make this clear with the tombstone at the end. :)

Reading you poem reminds me that I need to do something--make a difference--NOW! "Life is as a vapor" (Bible--don't remember where). The last line is especially powerful.

Yes, life is a vapor. Time is short here on earth. Thank you so much for catching my typo and for your kind remarks on my poem.

A sad and lonely poem, but perhaps you will live on in the poems you write. You can leave a legacy if you choose to. It's up to you, my friend! *smile*

I really like the hole that death creates passage - my mother died when I was in second grade. Five days later my first niece was born and five days after that my first nephew was born.
I watched that hole fill again, and it got me through my loss :-)
Will my great grandchildren remember my name? This is a question bound to resonate with most readers. This is the main reason I write.
I heard a sermon once that used that dash in between line - it made a big impression on me. Brooke

Thank you Brooke for sharing with me some of your story. Losing
your mother at such a young age is a terrible thing... Yes, I write, too, so some day maybe one of my kids or grandchildren will find "my stuff" and maybe just have a small part of me and get a glimpse of who I was. When my grandmother died (she wrote short stories and poetry and painted) her children took a collection of her work and made it into a book and gave everyone a copy. It is one of my most prized possessions.

I know nothing of either of my grandmothers beyond a couple of photos - what a fantastic gift!

This is a sad poem but of much truth as you say we are lost in the passage of time, it is all very inevitable. I think you have to do something very outstanding to be remembered after 3 or 4 generations, maybe even notorious, but at least you would be remembered. Maybe love is lost too, an irony is hate and badness are remembered. Interesting, thought provoking poem!

A beautiful poem that makes one think. I am up in age with nine grandchildren and I see most of them every week. The message within this poem, I too have the same thoughts; will they remember me when I am gone? Thanks for sharing this great poem. Your selection of artwork was ideal. Excellent job in writing this great poem.
