Sorry to be reviewing so long after posting. Very nice poem. Makes one reflect on past teachings, the meaning of Resurrection. "hope revived by new breath" - sometimes hope diminishes for many complex reasons, but if the spirit is awakened, revived or uplifted, hope becomes stronger too. Believers place their hope in the Risen Lord.

Jaded, thank you so very much for your thoughtful reviews. My point was that many people in our society want to jump straight to the happiness/joy/triumph of Easter without acknowledging that you can't have resurrection unless it is resurrection from something. The death of Good Friday precedes the He is Risen part of Easter. This applies to life outside religion too. People want to miraculously float to the top of the ladder rather than do the work of climbing the steps. I hope that clears up my intention a bit : -) Brooke

:) I read through this essense of Good Friday type Cinquain.
My first reaction was ... Yes. It all fit into place. The downturn was clear, the counts all matched and the title, I didn't even need to read the title to know the title.
The form worked well with the topic, especially come the end; meaning, I thought the line breaks added emphasis on the point and tied cleanly with momentum at the end. All the space needed to flash card an image with poetic Oomph
The rhyme, breath/death.... I liked that they were rhyming while also being so pivotingly opposite. Opposite sides of the spectrum tied together by rhyme.
