Oh wow! I just "discovered" you! Did you know you needed to be discovered? LOL.... I lived in Alaska (Eagle River) for 7 years and totally and completely loved it!

I worked in Anchorage, as did my husband... when he wasn't working the North Slope for Arco (Atlantic Richfield... now owned by BP -Beyond Petroleum, formerly British Petroleum). He had a day job too for awhile, but spent five years working the North Slope as a Safety Advisor for Arco.

He's still with BP, after nearly 30 years!

Anyway, we loved Alaska and all it stood for. The open range, the beautiful scenery, the wildlife, the general overall "openness" that was Alaska...

Recently (about three years ago), we went back and visited some friends, and just mostly vacationed in Alaska to show our son and daughter the state. My son, born in Anchorage, had little memory of Alaska, but feel in love with it immediately... He's now 23 years old.

What a lovely story of dog mushing teams... Such a big part of Alaska, Fur Rendevous, etc. We enjoyed all aspects of Alaska... And indeed, some friends are STILL there... people go and never leave...

I, unfortunately, suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), along with bipolar disorder, and after awhile, the darkness became too much for my "moods"... We left with heavy hearts, but will always treasure our lives there, and it will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

Your story really hit home with me, and brought back some lovely memories... It's been more nearly 20 years, but I miss it all the same.

And so does my husband, whom I think would love to live there again... It's just too far from family and my kids and best friend, that now, I wouldn't go back except to visit...

Anyway, now that I've told you my life story, you can see how much your writing really touches me.

LOL

Thanks so much for your stories that bring the state alive for people who have never been there, and for those of us who have.... Thanks for the memories!

Good luck with your published career and I wish you all good things,
Cat

A million thanks for taking time to read this chapter and for telling me about good years you've lived in Alaska. I've been in Fairbanks for 54 years and love living here. Now that my husband and I are retired, we live the snowbird life -- gone south during the darkest, coldest months.
Your review is very thoughtful and encourages me to submit another chapter very soon. Six stars is a big surprise. Many thanks!! Marie

A beautifully told story of love and respect for imperiled dogs. I love huskies. They are noble animals very close to their wolf ancestors. I have never owned one. the closest I came was a Samoyed we had when the kids were young. Similar disposition but I bit more playful, I think.

The story is compelling and the suspense is maintained well. Very good job.

nice dmotional descriotions, good imagery, even flow. There were one or two decriptive verb usages that felt a little off to me, but did not throw me completely out of the story. Very well done!

Another gripping episode in your well-told Alaskan tale. It is very clear throughout, you are well-acquainted with the environment you describe. You are able to create the scenes so well for your readers, bringing the Alaskan world alive. It is vivid and immediate, making us feel we've also lived there forever. The story is developing smoothly and naturally. There is always just the right amount of tension and suspense, keeping the pages turning and the reader's heart racing.

Very few typos indicate careful editing. One here: James, how are the dogs are doing? (take out extra "are" after dogs)
Put a comma after drive: "As we drive, I give Dad more details, "
I'm so glad you are publishing this wonderful story!

I learn so much reading different stories. Now this one from Alaska takes me away from Good OLD New Jersey. I only dream of life up there. You tell a good one. Wish the dogs could talk with their big hearts and feelings.

Amazing dogs like these, need that wide open country....hey so do I. Dusty

Whew, it was a harrowing ride to the vet and a presume James was more that a little concerned. He has a lot to be thankful for .... including Brooke.

Good Afternoon. For all of us dog lovers this story was not only well written but well told as well. I really enjoyed it. I especially enjoy writing that makes use of the sensory side of writing and paints great mental pictures as I read. You definitely have a talent in that regard and it adds a special quality to an already well written story...Tim

While this in not really my normal reading material I think you did a wonderful job. Your description and imagery was very, very well done. I can also say your narration is excellent as well. Keep up the great work.
