This is a very beautiful story. And it was literally written so well, I did not realize until the coach made the final announcement that I was holding my breath, hoping Bobby's efforts would be recognized.

Thanks for sharing this. JW

Oh my God!! How beautiful that you did put this in writing. How wonderful for Bobby that he was given his due on that evening, and for your sister, to see her baby treated with the praise and respect he deserved for his hard work and love of the game and everyone connected to it. This is beautifully written, honest and with much love. God bless Bobby, your sister who is surely in Heaven, and you, for writing this. Oh, and Tammy for pumping it up also, yes she is gifted and beautiful.

Hi, Shari, this is such a beautiful true story, it gets my eyes misty. Not only was the situation touching, but also the way you write about it. Exceptional indeed...

I don't cry easy my friend, but I'd be a stone otherwise if after reading this I couldn't control my tears; a heart-wrenching story that reflect the humanity lacking today, I thank you for sharing and God bless Bobby.

Thank you, my friend. This has moved many readers to tears, including my husband when I read it to him. There still are warm hearted people out there. Some students have elected a classmate with Downs Syndrome to be Queen of the prom. I do believe we are becoming enlightened slow but sure. Thanks my faithful reader for the six.

You get into Barbara's innermost thoughts so well as she resents the coach for not giving her son the recognition he so richly deserves.
What a touching ending to this story - I can just imagine the emotions of mother and son :-) Brooke

Very touching. Also a true story with that happy ending I wanted. I give Bobby credit for being a team player. Everybody counts. I could feel the mother's pain. I think she took it harder than he did. But then what do I now? I'm just the reader of this. I could never put myself in their shoes. Superb! Les

I do think it's harder on the parent than the child, especially if you have no husband to share it with. Thanks for the kudos, Les.

Yea for you! And yea for your nephew. I think he should be so proud of this story. I know his mom would be. You've done them both proud.

Can barely type through haze of tears. What an absolutely beautiful story! God love you for sharing this with us. May it remind everyone with a disability, myself included, that we are not the only ones to work through challenges. You did a beautiful job with this and I will remember it a long time.

Thank you, Sherry. This story had touched many hearts including mine. I wrote with the idea of helping others see that we can choose how to cope with disabilities. Appreciate the six stars.

In the beginning I hoped the mother would be able to exhibit the same courage the young son did - and by the end of your story, tears streamed down my face. I have a granddaughter struggling with the same illness.

Bless you. It's as difficult on the parents and grandparents to cope with any physical problems their blood relations have. Actually, the doctors' kept changing the diagnosis with medical advances. Thought is Duchennes Disease for awhile, now they tell him that it's a neuromuscular problem. Whatever it is, his muscles have atrophied, but he has a special van that works through voice control! And he's an amazing driver. Just too tired to go long distances. He's accomplished a lot in his life and I'll update readers on that sometime. He remains cheerful, has a college degree in accounting, and lives alone in an apartment with a lot of friends and overnight help to get by.
His mom never allowed him to feel sorry for himself. Maybe that's the secret. Just give your granddaughter a whole lot of loving. That's what helped Bobby get through--Mom too busy with work, but Grandparents always there for him. He even moved in for a while.

Thank you, ajdevore. You can't help but Bobby who goes by Robert now. He's so cheerful, but he does live on pain pills, bless his heart. I don't know how he manages but he does. I'll write more about him in the future.
