A contest winning entry! A seven star rating from the Contest Committee for posting the winning contest entry.

Very moving and very well written. You've really managed to convey your sister's feelings and young Bobby's strength in a short but nevertheless heartwarming story. It really sucked me in. Congrats!

I liked this story a lot. It's really easy to get pulled into the story. My only complaint is that I wished it was longer. I am happy with what you have here. I'm just a little greedy and want more, lol.
Thanks

I see you are new and a standard member. To be honest, I don't think your complaint is valid enough to rate four. There is a beginning, middle, and end. I will write more about Bobby later, but this was one specific incident. Thanks for reading and reviewing, anyway.

The reason I rated it a 4 is because it's my standard rating for anything. I do not just give out high ratings to everything. My rating has nothing to do with why I rated it the way I did. How are you going to tell me my complaint isn't valid? All I said was I wished it was longer. I understand that this was a specific incident. Which means there isn't much more that you could add to it. He is an interesting person to read about. I was just commenting about wanting to read more about him. Just because a story has a beginning, middle, and end doesn't warrant it a good story. It takes more than that Yes I am a new member and standard status. That means I still have to earn my spot on the site. Even with that being said, discounting what I say is discouraging to any one else that's new that has anything constructive to say to any of your work on here. I can get in line and praise you to the moon over this story. However, I am not going to be another drone like most people and offer nothing but praise. Sites like these are up and running to help each other out to become better writers. When we post stuff online such as stories, songs, etc. We are allowing the submitted material to be criticized regardless if it's negative or positive. If you can not handle this to be critiqued by people regardless of their member status. Then maybe you shouldn't be posting things that you have such emotional attachment with. I want to close this reply with the comment that this is not out of spite or anger. You can read this as you wish and free to do. I just hope you see my attempt to tell you that just because a member regardless of their status. Is saying something against the grain of what you are receiving. You shouldn't just try to smash their comment just because you see the word complaint. All criticism is valid regardless if it's negative or not. It's what you do with it that truly matters. If you can not handle it then in my opinion the more important question would be why put it on line then. If this is the type of reply I am going to get just for saying I wanted to read more about him. I regretfully withdraw any future readings of your materials posted online. I wish you the best in your endeavors and those yet to come.
    thanks

What a great story! My sister is in a wheelchair, has been since age 13, so I took this wonderful story to heart. Written to perfection is a very feeling way. I didn't see any typos and wouldn't change a word. Brief, but the tension builds until the happy ending. I could feel the happiness.

Thanks, Elly. The number of sixes I've received on this have blown me away and catapulted me from #13 to #10! I thank my beautiful sister for handing her version to me three months before her death. What a legacy she left.

Congratulations - no one is more deserving! Your sister is smiling, too. Elly

I am so glad Bobby got his jacket. He deserved so much more. He taught those other kids so much more. I know his mother was so proud of him as you are now. Thank you for sharing, Shirley

Thanks, Shirley. This boy turned out to be an amazing man, and his father has come around too.

A very well written story. The informal style works well. It's touching and poignant at the same time. The mother's angry is very realistic and well portrayed. I assume this is a true story; I was glad for the happy ending, but I wonder how often this is actually played out in real life. I fear the Bobbys of the world will continue to go unnoticed, except for the acts by the brave few in positions of power. Still, I am glad for Bobby and for the chance to read this extremely well-written story.

Thank you, Alvin. More and more we hear good stories about high schools doing kind acts for students with disabilities. I know that where I taught, the graduating class stood up and applauded when a gal with a twisted body and in a wheel chair (cerebral palsy) was wheeled on stage to get her diploma.

That night, her son fell asleep hugging his jacket, <<< I would have ended it here. Endings should say BAM! Have impact. What the family thought is not impt now... earlier if you must, but Bobby's pride goes BAM at the end.

Lovely, moving story! Thanks for sharing. :)

Good suggestion, Phyllis. I'll mull it over. Maybe switch the sentences around. Thanks for taking an interest.

Wow. This is a great story, truly inspirational. From the title, I didn't expect him to be recognized. I also didn't know this was real until the writer's notes. What an amazing story, and I'm glad he was able to be a part of something he wanted to. This was also written very well, which I don't want to be lost. You did a great job, as did your sister.

Whew! I'd give your narrative a 7 if I could--not just because it made me cry, then laugh, but because it is skillfully written and and uses powerful descriptions. GREAT

Thank you, Janice. I'm indebted to my literally beautiful sister for leaving me her written account of this so I could adapt it to my own voice.

Good Goddess, Spitfire!! What a wonderful story! I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I have to say that, in addition to your outstanding storytelling, I'm giving that 6th store to that gutsy, brave kid, who is probably an equally brave adult. How wonderful that his story could also be a contest winner. You did a tremendous job with this!

Bobby is amazing. I will update his story some time in the future. Am working on a prequel and sequel. His father is visiting him now. We'll go to visit in late April. He's 90 miles away. Thank you, so much for the sixer.
