I'm in tears. I know I get emotional over some things, but this is a beautiful story. The fact that it is real and the young man is still alive, makes it all the more special. I agree, that it is the handicapped that do anything they can do to help, that deserve the awards.
Kudos to Bobby and thanks to his Mum and you for bringing us the story of Bobby.
Now I'm off to find the tissues.

Thanks for digging into my archives and finding this-my best write ever. I'm traveling to Tampa (90 miles from where I live) to visit Bobby Wednesday and plan to tap his memory as reviewers have for more. I call once a week, but the latest news wasn't good. He's too weak to drive anymore. But he has a great support group who drive his van and take him shopping. We've invited him to move closer to us, but as I say he has friends in Tampa to help him. At my age, I can't. His body is dead weight.
I appreciate your six on this so very much.

I teach a senior English class which is currently Brit Lit(because we got a deal on some classroom sets). We want to change it to a nonfiction class to prepare students for more real-world literature. This would make a great example.

I loved teaching British Lit. And what fun to teach a non-fiction class. In fact, I edited some pieces my students wrote to illustrate a lesson learned. They opened up. It was therapeutic. I even sold them to a teen magazine. If you're interested, I'll give you the names. They're in my portfolio.
Oh, and thanks for the sixer. I'm sure you noted that it won the non-fiction contest.

You had me angry and thinking mean thoughts about the coach there for a while. What a great story of determination, physical endurance, and family love. Congratulations on your win.

Thanks, purrfect for that lovely six. This piece won over so many hearts. I'll have to quiz my nephew on other memories. He's busy working at home on his accounting business. He has quite a few clients and does well.

I have a friend who thinks her life story is boring. She lives in Alaska and has been in the wilderness for over twenty-five years. She has written a couple of sci-fi novels but I keep encouraging her to write about her experiences living and raising a family in the Alaskan wild. Your story here is an example of how to write about everyday life experiences and make them interesting and inspirational. I hope to get Anna of Alaska into FanStory. Thanks for your hard work and passion.

And thanks for the sixer, my new friend. I see on your profile interests "perform". Do you audition for stage plays? If so, what parts have you performed?

Congrats on winning this competition with this very heart-warming story. So good to read that he finally got the jacket that meant so much to him.

Stories like this always move me more than any tv drama ever could, because I know what's it like to have a relative with a disability, too. In my case, it's my sister, and it's mental. And very much like Bobby, she also has an indomitable spirit. Thank you for sharing this.

So glad I read the winner today! I don't care how many golden crosses you have received with this, I'm offering another. I sensed my blood pressure rising as I wondered who would get that last jacket. This is why we have non-fiction, to tell a human interest story that can make a reader want to stand over his computer and do a fist pump. Stan

Do you know if they showed all of the other entries in the contest? - I can't seem to find them. I had an entry in the contest about my adventures in Yosemite and would like to read what some of the others writers wrote about.
reply by the author on 10-May-2012
For some reason they never do that. Probably too many. I would expect at least fifty. I read others and thought them excellent.
But I think the committee looks at the reviews before voting. So sixers count. I had at least fifteen on this, I think.
