Ingrid, this is a hoot. I thought I'd die when you got to the part about the dress you wore to your son's wedding. Not over the circumstances, certainly, but over you just now getting rid of the dress. My downfall is multiple sizes. Sometimes I just have to face the fact I'll never be that small again. Talk about soul searching and sad partings! :) Nancy

A great write, Spiritual Echo. Every woman, and lots of men, will relate to your attempt to rid your life of excess. You do a great job of connecting articles of clothing to events in your life. I especially enjoyed the part where you danced when thinking about your former daughter-in-law. Well done! Bev

Now you have made me realize I need to clean out "my" closet. My husband and I share one closet- and I have one all to my self- and I also rotate my winter/summer clothes in the spare closet. Oh, my- I needed them when I went to church weekly- but since my health keeps me from going out, I guess I need to clean out at least one closet.

Oh, don't push yourself, really it's painful, not att therapuetic as some would have you believe. Thanks for the visit.

Ha, great humor! Your ironic descriptions were detailed and interesting, painting a picture. I could see you standing there sorting through your garments with the 'keep' pile growing higher and nothing in the 'donation' pile.
Good work, neat story with a smiley ending.

Oh you DID make me laugh! I have a girlfriend with a walk-in wardrobe FULL of black clothes. She can see a difference in the cut, the nuance, the season, the reason.... I just see widow's garbs on a youngish woman - and always unflattering (wrong colouring).
I have the opposite problem. I've got two VERY heavy suitcases stuffed full of clothes that I can't throw away because they're all different colours and textures (winter, summer, and in between weathers, and are colour-coordinated to go with pants, tights, skirts, tops, jackets - so many that I only wear them once a year, but like them all. My little van groans under the weight. And did I mention I've got the same problem with my shoes...and my hats?
As usual, you've got the wry, funny, self-deprecating tone just right and it's a pleasure to give you my top star.
Just one little b.t.w ... we call them 'changing rooms'; don't you?

All I have to say about that is (amen) You just brightened up my morning. I can so relate. Loved the bit about the dress worn at your sons' unfortunate occasion. (But you did get a wonderful grandson out of it, right? Have a great day.

This was wonderful. You took this reader right along with you down your memory lane of the whys, whens and wheres of your various outfits. You're a wonderful talent Ingrid and I enjoyed this piece so much, most especially your final line. BRAVO! I especially LOVED the "some things are easy to discard" paragraph. Hilarious and we can all indentify!!

Good Morning from Maine!

Yeah, I think a lot of us women have been there, done that! Now-a-days I just throw out what I have not worn in a year...new or not!! I have discovered that is the best way to do it otherwise it does multiply and has a contest for space. And what a problem trying to squeeze more into the cupboard!! Well done Ingrid with this story I enjoyed the read (and the memories it brought back). Take care. Luv Cynthia

A light piece of nonsense after some heavy metal.

I thoroughly enjoyed your story that captured both humor and nostalgia. I bet a lot of us have stood where you did with similar thoughts. I liked the cream suit, the weight yoyo, and most of all, the tee shirts. (I've been known to by them by the dozen!)you've got good grammar, good word choices, and your tone is charmingly depreciating. Good story!

I read this earlier, and was chuckling to myself. I could see it all playing out and relate to it totally. That time of year has come - gonna be doing this myself!
Love the way you got rid of the 'association' clothes. HAHA! A cleansing for sure.
Wee hints of all kinds of emotions, here, Ingrid, and a good pinch of dry humour
A selection of moods to fit the outfits.
Nice one
