Congratulations on your nomination for "Story of the Month". I just love this tale of closet-cleaning. We gals are all guilty of this, either for sentimental reasons or "I just can't part with it" 'cause it will fit next season.

Good luck in this contest.

Why then [can] I find [nothing] to wear - Why "can't" ... and find "anything"

Don't you love it when you make one final change and skip it during the final proofing? I find myself scurring back to my edit page to fix before anyone reads it (lol)

Aren't you the observant one? Thanks, really. I made the correction.

Fun read!

Brilliant, the way the clothes bring back memories, reasons and excuses for being in that closet!

Love the descriptions of the colors, styles, fabrics etc.

Nice job.

Spiritual Echo, I liked the way your wrote this. Aren't
so many of us like this with some of our treasures whether
it's books or for my mother her material to sew with. I like
the humorous ending of having half a bag of clothing out of
all the things you had in your closet.

Yes, and likely I won't wear half the clothes, but like we always think...it's too good/too comfortable/too big or small to toss. Thanks.

Ingrid, I remember reading this, but I don't remember not reviewing it. How odd! I love all the self-deprecation.
And you've nailed the mindset of all of us when required
to make hard choices. There is no getting a hard choice back---or a creamy pantsuit, either.
I'm glad this has been nominated, and I wish you the best of luck.

Peace, Lee

Lee, by far this is not my best story, an afternoon romp on the keyboard, but it is my first nomination for 'story of the month' so I threw a few promotional bucks at the screen.

I keep looking at your new story "Vicious Circle' and knw I'm saving the read. I'm a pathetic sentimental freak who thins that if I resist I'll get to savour the pleasure a little longer.

Susan tells me you are now writing for another site called Fictionique. Cool, what's tha about? ingrid

Hey, Ingrid, and congratulations on your nomination! Truth is, they rarely pick my best stories either.

I'm not sending 'other' stuff to Fictionique. I usually post a story here first, work out the kinks, then submit to my editor over there. It's not a paying site, but it's about 5 steps up from FS. It looks like a magazine, it's free to anyone, and I've gotten as many as 13,000 readers for a story. You should browse it. There are several good writers who contribute weekly. I guess I'm one. I've been there since August, and they've published all 45-ish pieces I've submitted. It's Fictionique.com

That's terrific. So glad you are pushing a few buttons and moving up and beyond. 13,000 people reading your words. That's spectacular.

I'll be able to say...I knew him when...

You've had a peek at my drawers, I see. Yes, I still have the outfit I wore to my son's wedding to someone lacking basic manners! I am glad I kept some smaller, I need them now.

No spag issues caught my eye.

Thanks for a good read and chuckle.

Hahaha! What a clever title you picked for this story. It isn't at all what I was expecting, but turned out great! Excellent job with this.

Glad you enjoyed. Just finished reading your story "Carnival" and will now have to find part 2 to see how it ends.

I'm not finished part two yet, soon.

This is producing one of those ouch moments I hate. My closet is stuffed, yet I wear the same few shapeless body covers over and over. Things 3 or 4 sizes too small are easy to get rid of, or easier, but the ones just 1 or 2 sizes smaller than me, they keep holding out tantalyzing logic along the lines of, "If you lose 20, 30, 40, 50 pounds, etc..., I'll look soooo good on you" and so I hold on to them for another five or ten years.
It really is stupid how long I hang on to these illusions. It's not like I'd be able to go to the store and buy clothes in the proper size if I ever did actually lose weight!

A couple of bags of clothes (some with tags still on) taken to Goodwill would feel really freeing, not to mention loosening up the stranglehold in the closet.

Why do I think nothing will move?

Ouch. :-(

We are so guilty. Somedays I ask myself to judt tske one thing out of the closet each day. I have a garbage bag beside my be, but the truth is that I just don't want to make the decision...if the tag stuff doesn't work ever think about trying to take them bacck for an in store credit?

You have caught this concept so well, "someday I may need this." So what if it is a size 4 and there is no way I will see that size ever again. Your humorous self talk made this a great read.

Now this is one I am sure many can relate to. I left nearly every thing I own in the US when I moved here but quickly began to restock the closets. Now I am gaining weight and most of what I have doesn't fit anymore....time to go through and do a little of my own cleaning spree. I enjoyed this very much.
