AlvinT,

This hits home. I was pissed! A lifestyle has no business being put under a microscope when the bearer has opted to die in your stead. This was well done as far as the ABC requirements were concerned but the content was your ace. Thanks for giving me something to think about. Again. LS

alvin,
i don't normally give a sixer on a contest entry but i made an exception to this one because i am still repulsed by the repeal of the don't ask, don't tell. i keep hearing hubby say but no one wants to fight a war beside gay soldiers. i keep telling him that when i worked at the aids outreach 90% of the gay men coming in over a certain age had been in the military. had fought in vietnam. no one gave a shit despite what the outsiders to believe. sigh. best of luck with this one.
love,
barbara

Yes, I understand. My friend now tells me it's worse. Now that certain people in the military can find out one is gay, they can make it impossible for that person to perform his/her duties, yet they can't kick them out of being gay. For clarification, did you mean to say you were repulsed by the REPEAL? Thanks for an extraordinary rating and review.

that is so sad. i am repulsed that they are making it so difficult for people to be themselves. i lived as a lesbian for five years. i didn't feel the stigma as much as i saw toward the men. people have no issues with women on women but men on men, seems to scare the crap out of people. at least with the don't ask don't tell, people can be themselves.

Yes, I can understand that. In the college town in which I live, lesbians were accepted much earlier than gay men.

i think they're afraid that they might be gay. LOL

You have told your friends story in this short poem whilst meeting the set criteria.

I always feel abit like Moses when your work comes up for review inadequate.

You have given a true sense of what jealousy is decribed in the Bible as rotteness to the bones.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for an excellent review. Please don't feel inadequate when reviewing my poems. I need to know what all people think, since I make my living this way.

It so astounds me that the military continues to treat men and women who give so much for our country treatment they wouldn't give a dog. Your poem is powerful and so sad. A wrong is a wrong.

It was a supremely stupid rule/law that has now thankfully been overturned. I will be glad when the government gets out of people's bedrooms. Virginia, et al.

Thanks for a great review. Unfortunately, my friend tells me it's worse now--once certain people in the military find out one is gay, they can make it impossible for one to perform one's duty, although they can't kick one out directly for being gay.

Dear Alvin, This is an excellent poem. I think this "ABC" poem format worked well for this short poem. It is straight to the point and hard hitting. I find it very sad that your friend could serve our country and he could be dishonorly discharged for something that has nothing to do with his job. I hope his life is better now. I even heard jokes when my 1st husband served on a submarine. Other service members would say '140 men go down on a submarine 70 couples come back up.' Best of luck in the contest, Shirley

great poem.

Kicked out
Lance Corporal
Marines
No one cared that you served your country well
Just whom you kissed...

That's very sad honoring his so called country in their corrupt wars. to get mistreated and discriminated against.

That's really appalling. Let me guess he was a soldier representing America, they care about their flag more then their people.

great poem

Regards
Tia

I am amazed how a person
Can be treated this way.
Freedom to talk and be what one is
Should be accepted.

One should be allowed
To love who they want to.

Thank goodness this is all changing dear Alvin! Nice kyoka that explains well, and very succinctly, what so many of our military, potentially giving of their lives in the name of freedom, have needed to suffer and endure. Best of luck in this contest. Sue

Thanks for a great review. I didn't even think of it as a kyoka, but, by the postmodern definition, it certainly is! I love that pretty little plus sign.

And a wonderful looking, smart, probably very kind young man is dead, by suicide because of an asinine roommate in college. My son was run off too, for different reasons. And has lost MONTHS of time he could be putting toward his future. I believe this country is run and is based on the mentality of bullying. I hate it. Good post AL. Susan
