This is an interesting story, Bev. Thank you for sharing it. Sounds like the lives of the women back in those days were not so good. It was written well. I wouldn't call this romance, though.

Thanks so much, April. I feel that Jefferson's devotion to his was, to my mind, quite romantic. Different strokes... I really appreciate your time and interest. Warm regards, Bev

I would change 1872 to 1782 ,but honestly this is full of lots of stuff I didn't know. I think he lost a few children too from his first wife and that was part of the reason they bonded. Never knew she was educated and all that.Neat to know.

Thanks so much, F, for catching that error. Good gosh, that is quite a different animal LOL! Martha and Thomas certainly must have bonded with the loss of their four children. Thanks for stopping and for your great review. Bev

Very interesting and informative. How little we know as a rule about the historical figures of our country. It shows a different side of another President, and much loved figure.
How hurtful to me is that he didn't free her and give credence to their love and the children they shared. It was a different time in history, and one I hope will not be repeated.

Thank you so much for your generous review, Magic Wand. I agree totally with your insights, here. It's very obvious that Thomas had a strong narcissistic streak, like many great men of his time. I really appreciate your time and interest. Hugs, Bev

A very interesting historical account of one of our presidents and his relationships. Interesting in how different some things were back then and some so similar.

We held a wedding for one of our daughters at a country club in St. Charles, Il built as a replica of Thomas Jefferson's mansion. I really enjoyed this historical essay bringing to mind Thomas Jefferson's life and that of Sally Hemming. Interesting and educational for those unfamiliar with the story. Excellent read.

I found this to be an interesting historical read. It is well written and kept me engaged from beginning to end. There is so much rich history in this piece and can't help but think what a wonderful historical fiction tale could be woven from this writing. You express yourself well and have a gift with words. -Judy

I read this yesterday, and just loved it, Bev. I was completely fascinated from start to finish. I had heard some of this before, but wasn't aware of the full story. Six children! My goodness. And if I understand it correctly, Sally and Martha shared the same father?

Great write. Excellent read. Well done, my friend. Hugs, Av. x

Hello, Av. I'm so glad you enjoyed reading about Martha Jefferson's life. So many Americans believe that Sally Hemmings was the unofficial wife of Thomas - I really wanted to present a more balanced picture. Not saying Thomas did not love Sally, but there was someone who claimed his heart first. I so appreciate your very generous rating and support, my friend. Hugs, Bev P.S. Thanks for catching that typo!
