A wonderfully poetic opening with great alliteration, strong verb choices, excellent mood creation and use of deliberate fragments
she lifts the bridle from it's hook - drop the apostrophe
This is absolutely hauntingly beautiful, Susan :-) Brooke

We can't go backward, Suse, except in our minds - and on paper. You've set up a beautiful scene. Well written. :) Nancy

Hi Nancy! I know, that's why I write about it too often. It's the only way I can stay half-way sane. I thank you for reading it, and understanding too. xoxo! Susan

A wonderful write Susan. The moon and horse riding, it is all so nice . And all of us that used to ride would like to go back there. At least I would.

Oh Ine! Let's go!!! Wouldn't it be great??? I hope I don't have to give it up. But with this deal of getting cut open and living where there are MORE mean you know what's, well, I may just quit. Why spend money on a horse you can't ride??? Ahhh. But, thank you for a great review. Love it!! xoxo! Susan

Oh Susan don't give up on your horse yet. You might get fit enough to ride it again.

This is quite a well written stretch of prose that at times has the same cadence as would an un-rhymed poem. Producing such a work takes a lot of writorial skill. Well done.

Hi Axel! Thank you so very much. I looked out at the moon tonight and it blinded me. Then I thought of how I always used to ride in the moonlight all the time, so, this story. SO depressing. But, your review has given me a smile, and that's worth it's weight in gold. Thank you. Susan

I knew immediately that the woman is you --stiff and sore. Although you mention elderly, so it's how you feel inside right now. I would guess you to be mid-forties?? Wrenching parallel between the woman and the mare--both longing for respite. A beautiful scene where the mare remembers, stands quiet and still for her mistress to mount. A poignant and hopeful last sentence. You still have the talent, girl. Just get back your health and move where it's warm.

hi Shari! Thank you so much...I am trying to do just that my friend. I really am. It's just going to take some time. I'm sorry I plunked down most of my money on this white elephant. Damn the economy. And me. Thank you tho, your kindness helps me keep trying. hug, Susan

They still won't let me give you a well deserved 6 star rating for this one. This is so moving and the imagery captured and pulled me into the story. I can so relate to being old and tired and just wanting go back to a time when we were young. I just love how you seamlessly transform the woman into the young child and your last sentence "And Luna winked at Sleeping Sun, while she let the girl and filly play...brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely marvelous!

Hi Smurphy!! hugs and hugs, for yet another very kind and encouraging note. I am just elated each time you enjoy something of mine. I sure hope you are okay, and getting your regular pc back to normal. These darned things are our connection. Just think, if we cease to be allowed the internet. It's coming. Love, Susan

Susan,

This is an excellent short story about an old farm woman reliving her past. I enjoyed reading this shimmering post and couldn't find anything to criticize.

Hi there Realist, Nice little short story here. Yeah, we all fantasize about going back to our youth and to ride a horse again. Do you know it is going to happen one day in the future? Thanks for sharing

Geez, Susan, this was downright ethereal. Had an incredibly upliftng feel to it. I could really visualize The old woman riding going out to ride the swayback mare, and you suddenly depict her as a little girl on a filly.

Stellar work, Susan. Really lifted my spirits.
