At first read I thought you were writing about Amelia Earhart. Nancy Bird is indeed a much more exciting figure to write about. Thank you for this. I enjoyed it :-0~

Nope. Figured she would have been flogged to death so decided to give an Aussie historical figure some air time.
    Thanks for your review Seth.

Hi, Pip Happy Holidays, my friend. This is very interesting. At first I thought you were speaking about Amelia Ehrhardt. I knew nothing about your Girl at all. Good job entwining the story in a poem. Good luck in the contest, Pip. Bob

Wow many thanks Bob...glad you enjoyed this write. It seems there were a few others who didn't get quite as much recognition as Amelia...plus being an Aussie I figured I should go for Oz history rather than the alternative.
    Cheers Pip

Sounds like me. I was born in 1940 as the WWII was raging I would look at the military planes flying overhead and long to fly. I did spend five years in the U.S. Air Force. Thank you for the story of a great Aussie woman.

Hey Phillippa,
I love it that Ms Bird and the great Amelia Earhart shared so many of the same qualities. I have always admired women who refused to take a back seat to ANYONE!! Your poem is most interesting and informative and an excellent entry for the contest. Best wishes to you

Closet, Very well written Earlette of this heroine who filled the skies with her fulfilled dreams and, I'm sure, paved the way for other lady pilots. You effectively told her story while maintaining poetic craft. The iambic pentameter, rhyme scheme and turn in the third stanza are spot on. Best wishes in the contest. Great author's notes as well. A strong contender in this contest. Blessings, Hector

I knew nothing of this woman, so I thoroughly enjoyed this post, Clo. Your Earlette is perfectly rhymed and metered, plus it was an outstanding OZ history lesson for me! Bravo

Your author notes are superb-you have a good flow and really this is an educational write with so much information that I was not aware--Nancy Bird--reminds me of 'Lady Bird'--well penned-great job.

Great job with this, Phillippa. Great job using flying images throughout: ambition's wings, saw her soar, air show would navigate her course, to name a few. I enjoyed learning about this amazing woman, and you did a grand job bringing her to life. Good luck in the contest. Linda

I found this poem to be in excellent form, as usual, closet. Also, very instructional because without reading the poem I automatically assumed from the picture that it would be Amelia Earhart. So glad to read of another marvelous woman pilot and super role model. Thanks for the history lesson rendered in such a superb way. Warm regards, Bevver
