this piece needs a bit of rearranging, the opening is quite intreging then shifts to a woodpecker perhaps that can be the last paragraph, the title suggests a phantom memory but doesnt give any depth to the writers feelings some lines are cliques also.

Hi Joan! Lol! Just wanted to say thanks, but this was explained as a metaphor, and I like cliche's, I hate cliques, and let's just let 'sleeping dogs lie' with this one! lol! Thanks again. Susan :o)

Your haunting story is superbly written. I dub the queen of horror. Excellent descriptive writing and great narrative. In this story you've effectively managed to give the reader main character, setting, conflict and resolution. You do a good job showing instead of telling. I'd recommend your story to other reviewers. I was enthralled by your thought of Mother Nature seeking revenge. Have a blessed weekend, my friend. By the way, killer metaphor for life.
Melissa.

Hi Susan :)

I love the piece, it's well written and filled with profound emotion. A sad tale, yes, but then things are not always sunny days with bright blue skies.

Your last two paragraphs are stunning.

Very good work.

Ted

You know I am not into horror and thiller, but I read it because you do a good job of it. Your writing is sound and you did a good job.

This is an excellent short story. In the past many have died because they dared to tell the truth. In the first paragraph you say as you look back and remember Peggy Childs. If she was your mother wouldn't you have said when I remember Mama? You could word it differently than remembering if you don't want us to know she was you mother until later. I love the line where you say "We came home and home was dead."

HI Beth! I did struggle with that...I was trying to hide that fact...I will go in and see if I can do it differently. Thank you very much! I appreciate your pointing this out! HUG! Susan

Wow, Suse,Wow! The reality of terror is written here in your usual mesmorizing descriptive way. Using your thoughts to tell the story made this all the better. Yes, a real chiller. Hugs...Susan

A topnotch write and one to envy. You have faced your demons here and most can never. Isn't it purely amazing, the things that have happened in such a short time?

HI there! I am still fighting this nonsense too. This story is a was of describing how my life has been ruined by certain people, who revel in tormenting me. It really is getting old. Don't know how to describe it. BUT, thank you again for being here for me Miss Caterpillar! xoxo, susan

Your story is very well written and no doubt, expresses the horror intended. Just the thought that parts of it reflecting events in real life is quite frightening.

Good job. JW

Hi Jonathon! Thank you so much. I used this as a sort of analogy? The loss of the mother is the loss of my civil rights...long story. BUT, it worked for me...Our country is not what it makes out to be anymore. SO sad. Thank you again Jonathon...Susan
