Easy to see why this won the contest. Creatively fashioned and wonderfully crafted. A fine and perfectly funny piece of poetic art.

My last sixer goes to you - Very nicely done!

Congratulations Steve! Superbly written poem, well worth the six stars I find I still have at the end of the week. Great descriptions, great meter, great dialogue and great wit. Most worthy winner :)...Hugs, Sue

This was so entertaining! I just love the tale you weave with such wonderful witticisms. The meter is perfect and the rhyming scheme superb as it doesn't sound sing-song and the vocabulary rocks! I even learned the origin of "toe the line" when I did a quick google search when questioning the spelling. I truly loved this; thanks for sharing! (and for teaching me something along the way)

Thanks, Jules, for the very kind words and the six stars.
I borrowed the rhyme scheme and bouncy meter from Australia's most famous poet, Banjo Patterson. He used it in his humorous classic, 'A Bush Christening'
    Cheers.

Highly amusing and very clever as well. This had a silly Gilbert and Sullivan feel to it. Perfectly rhymed and the meter was spot on. This kind of reminded me of O'Henry's epic, "Casey at the Bat" or something Dr. Seuss might have penned.
Good, irreverent fun.

Thank you - two greats to be compared to, although I believe 'Casy' was written by Ernest Thayer. I aspire to write something like that - it is magnificent. O. Henry did write a few poems, but not a patch on his short stories.
    Thanks again.

And thank you again for dispelling the myth that no one says Golly Gee Whizzikers any more!

The judge didn't see this one coming his way. This was a very humorous tale. Told in a very well written poetic vogue. This was just a delight to have read and written this response for... John

I don't know if this is a contest entry, but whether it is or is not it is a winner with me. Unfortunately I am not able to award your poem six stars at this time because please believe me it deserves seven. What a wonderful poem. I was totally entertained and shocked beyond belief by the last stanza.
