Excellent recounting of the horrible murders at Bellingham Manor. Excellent transition to the paranormal team investigating the strange happenings decades later. Mia shows her extraordinary powers by taking care of the pain in Emma's ankle. The other members of the team, Mike and Luke, are overwhelmed by the paranormal activity in the house. Furniture moved into the library, etc. Excellent work with this. It's so interesting to read how the team goes about its investigation. A good thing they have a psychic among them. By all means, continue with this. There's so much suspense, it reminds me of some of the movies I've seen about such investigations. judi

Hi, Judi
Thank you very much for this most encouraging review, Judi. I enjoy watching how the various paranormal groups approach dealing with poltergeist/ghostly activities. For some families, their help is truly a godsend. And I do appreciate, also, your mentioning the transition of the two eras. I took a chance on the way I wrote it, so it's good to know you felt it was effective..
So happy to see you in the SOM contest once again. It's quite a diverse field, and I'm really proud to be in it with all of you.
Have a great weekend,
Bev

You're very welcome. You really create and effective, spooky atmosphere and your characters really seem part of the paranormal experience. I was surprised to find myself in the SOM contest. Scripts usually don't play too well in the voting. It looks like your entry should do well, and best of luck. judi
-
Thanks, Judi. I appreciate your encouraging words.
With Captain Jack and Humpie in the contest, and given the length of the list, I'm happy with whatever comes my way LoL.
-
I see you're at the top now. Good for you. Too often it's just the usual suspects who come out winners. judi
-
Thanks Judi, but one thing I've learned is never to count my chickens!
-
You're welcome. Glad you're up there on top. Not many days left. judi
-
That's very kind of you, Judi. But with Humpie and all his fans you never know :))
-
Things do get rather predictable. judi
-
Unfortunately, here on FanStory that is certainly the case. Though I'm glad they've started including scrips in the SOM, I think there should still be a separate category. You would, hands-down win that honor, Judi.

Hi Bev,
This chapter gave me goosebumps. I am happy to see you have returned to your ghost hunters and their story. Oh, the poor spirits that inhabit this house. They need help. I am being good and not reading ahead, but hope for more soon.
You do the spiritual world so well.

Thank you so much, Debi. I really appreciate you sticking with the story despite the delays in posting. I'm working on the
next installment right now, so it won't take nearly as long!
I'm thrilled that you got what I was hoping for--a feeling for the victims of Charles' evil. So often, in real life, it's all about the murderer and what makes them snap. Families feel their loved one takes back seat in importance especially if the murders are gruesome.
I appreciate the lovely stars as well as your encouragement and support.
:) Bev

You write very cleanly and clearly. The action is particularly well-explained and presented in a logical way. The story of a group of paranormal investigators has tremendous possibilities as a novel. The reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the disconnect between the two sections. The opening or maybe prologue is written in omniscient narration which makes the horrifying event of Catherine's murder seem dry. Consider writing it in the style of the modern section that follows. Also I could not figure out who Margarethe is and why Catherine was worried about her.

Thank you for your review.
This is the 13th chapter in the novel. If you had gone back and read the other chapters you would not be confused.
As to your opinion on the writing, I concede that you are entitled to that.

Wow, you've got my attention here. This is the first chapter I've read of this book and I am totally taken. Something is going on here. As a matter of fact , I do believe in ghosts. I've actually experienced one albeit a friendly one. Love your writing.
This reminds me of a British case of a Lord Lucan who in the seventies apparently murdered his wife and a maid they thought was his mistress. He disappeared into thin air and has never been heard of nor ever found. The murder case is still open. Are you by any chance basing it on this? Can't wait to read on. All the best. Ulla:)

Hi, Ulla. I'm fascinated by your mention of that murder case. I did not know about the case when I began this novel. I do watch a lot of crime dramas, and will have to check out that particular one.
I appreciate your support and encouragement! Glad you're open to reading more.

You almost make searching for ghosts into a science. I know some people believe in ghosts. Your premise is good - the background about Charles Bellingham and the murdered wife and her lover - it answers a lot of questions. But it would take a lot of convincing to convert a skeptic like me. It's good reading, though. Wish I knew more about Reiki. I have a bad knee these days. It was good reading you, Bev.

Hi, Adrienne. Thank you for your gracious review. I'm glad you felt the story was entertaining if a bit far-fetched.
These days, searching for ghosts is very much a science. There's new equipment coming out on a regular basis and most of it is highly computerized. Nothing takes the place of a good psychic, though.
Sorry about your knee. That's one area that can really put a damper on activities, not to mention throwing off the gait. I hope you're able to find some relief.
Have a good weekend!

I found this to be an interesting read. It held me right from the start. Also, it's refreshing to read something written by an author the has a good knowledge of punctuation. I'll look out for your next installment.

Thanks so much, Bruce. I appreciate you taking time to read my post.
A follow-up chapter should be along about mid-week next week depending on how the editing goes.
Much appreciated,
Bev

A quite lengthy and extensive piece your posted. Maybe it could've been split into further chapters since there was quite a bit of detail (at least in my opinion). Overall, well written. John

The opening paragraph give us a good insight into the expectations from ambitious parents for their marriageable age daughter.
After the bodies were removed - great paragraph, I could feel this investigators goose bumps and then you
The presence of the paranormal team - in this paragraph I get the feeling that Catherine isn't really happy either with the new presences.
Great read in this chapter.

Pearl, thanks so much for remaining loyal to this novel. I'm planning a follow-up post in about a week. It's hard for readers to keep up when so much time passes.
You are right on target about Catherine's reluctance to allow herself any hope. More on that in later chapters.
Your support and encouragement mean a lot to me, Pearl.
