Being a Maryland republican - Republican
same for Democrat
where the Marines in the province known as the Triangle of Death, gave their lives - drop the comma
when the Marines asked him, Why are you coming up here under mortar fire?" "His response - His response is not a new sentence - it finishes the WHEN part of the previous sentence.
I also am saddened by low voter turnout - you make a good case for why people ought to vote. Your illustrative examples are strong. Brooke

The comma in lives was previously dropped and doesn't show up on my screne. I did combine the other paragraphs and usually in word, when I capitalize Dems and Repubs, it tells me not to as other members have also told me that. I agree with you and recapitalized those bastards. LOL

Baltimore is becoming a heart breaker to me and I wonder why certain people signed on to me with Facebook, because when I talk about a serious topic, they never respond. It is the same with the Sun newspaper. Talk BS though and the response is incredible, yet they watch and listen, which makes me feel I must be doing something right.

Baltimore also holds it's symbolic ironies as last weekend, I should have been typing my biography to conclusion but decided to attend the Frank Zappa ManiFest-o, which was a discussion about the expression of free speech and the 1st amendment. I had promised the curator of the Poe House that I would attend the poetry reading he was moderating.

For all the effort, I ran into the face of Baltimore's perception and lack of the 2nd amendment and was robbed at knife point. I did what I was supposed to and got myself to safety, then notified the police. They insisted I go walk to headquarters and file a complaint, but did noticed I was stabbed as the robber apparently kissed my hand with his knife point. I just wanted them caught with the weapon, and the money with both his and mine finger prints on it. If I wasted the time filing a report, they would have gotten away and even if they were found, it was an unwitness event and they would have spent the money. It's sad to see crimefighters reduced to bean counters. Baltimore and even my area just seems to get worse. Oh, they did keep the prostitutes off of Harford Road until the election was over and cited improved crime statistics. That's because the police are refusing to write up police reports and most people once victimized realized what a waste of time that is.

Baltimore always wonders why it is losing so much revenue, of course the same people are elected and appointed.

I thank you for the compliments and gracing me with this review. Mike

Those who do not take the time to get informed and vote just may be the ones whining the loudest when freedoms taken for granted are gone. Keep on informing, Mike. I wonder if you follow the writings of FanStorian hawordsmith? She is putting out some very thought provoking pieces that should be read in my opinions by all Americans.

Like how the 2nd amendment is perceived in eastcoast cities. I find it poetically humorous that I could attend the Frank Zappa Manifesto which is about the 1st amendment and then get robbed at knife point heading back to the inner Harbor. The police can get the prostitutes of the street and say the numbers went down, but those prostitutes were back the day after the election, and the other crime problems never hide anyway.

I decided not only to vote with my wallet and not spend money, I am letting the business community know that as well. Its too expensive anyway, and definitely not worth a drop of my blood.

I thank you very much for your compliments and this review. Mike

Very nice essay, Mike. You brought the facts to the reader, expressed your opinion well, and your example of the Iraqi election shows how important a responsibility it is to vote by those who never have been given that right. Great job, Mike.

(further)farther down the line

fight to prevent people from coming (to)vote.

I haven't voted for many years now. I found out that no matter who I vote for, I lose. It is not a matter of life and death as you have put it. I still believe it should be everyone's right to vote. But then it is also my right to choose not to do so. I enjoyed reading this well written article... John

That is true, but what about bond issues, community issues? With this poem, I am just trying to get people to consider the role they play in the future. Their have been times I have been worse then a voter and supported someone, out of principle. Totlly thankless and unfulfilling, yet like the poetry I write, it provides me with a peace and feeling only money is purported to supply. Now I mix both and scare all! LOL

I understand and enjoy this review. Thank you for that and the compliments. Maybe a poet wouldn't be happy, but a poetic writer sees the contribution his works really make to people. Mike

Since I agree with your views in this 100% I'm not sure I can review it correctly. Let me just say that I liked this! I remember how excited I was when I finally hit voting age and have never missed an election since! (40 yrs worth of elections) Now that any of us can vote by absentee ballot there is just no excuse for people ignoring this American right! My thought has been if you don't vote then any tax return monies due you go into a fund for veterans.
But back to the business of reviewing. No bad comments. I did find 2 type-o's. The line "turns you life takes"; you = your?; and line "people from coming vote." missed a "to" after coming?

this is very well written, mike, a great job writing this essay about poor voter turn out. i hate that a small majority of voters decide the future of the city. i vote mostly republican but have been known to vote for democrats also. i always read the printout of their answers to the Christian Coalition Surveys. and i read their website to check their voting record and educational history.

The attitudes regarding voting just gets worse in my observations and what a shame if we can't take an intrest in our own lives. I'll be honest, the Baltimore is status quo liberal, but by the time the election rolls around, there is plenty for us to view in order to make the decision. It should always be the best person to do the job as well represent you and your ideals. Thank you very much for the compliments and reviewing my work. Mike

Hi Mike,

In your first paragraph do you mean 'this excuse' instead of 'this excuses?' Also the line (same paragraph) 'it's not worth taking off from work' I would delete the word 'from'...you are a better writer than me so why am I giving you advice? (grin) This is an important essay and I hope many will read it. There is so much gripping about our politicians but if you don't vote you have no right to complain. You wrote this well and I found it very interesting and agree with your views....well done, chey

Damn your quick! I meant, "these excuses," and in keeping with Baltimore dialect, I changed, "from," to, "of." When you don't vote, I think the voters have the right to complain about them. LOL I short have given myself a political visectomy as I have started to see both parties to be nothing more a different color of the same flavor, and these days, principles need to be stressed. It does make people think, despite party affiliation to boot.

I thank you very much for your compliments and this review. Mike

I do the later when the politicians are around me and I am armed. LOL

I had a good time last night meeting the Sun staff, but those I really needed to talk to didn't show up, yet I did learn a lot and have a much better picture of the nuts and bolts.

I completely understand how you feel as I to find myself voting for the lesser of two evils, but I decided to put a stop to that as well. At this time I am a person without a political affiation because I got tired of the republicans in the state doing stupid things. They are ignoring my message of get off your ass and prove yourselves. That's what happens when I am a friend.

Statewide and in the city, I am very anti-liberal and democrat; but much lesser so as those in the county seem to do a decent job, handle the problems without resorting to raising taxes, and aren't in lockstep with the national themes.

I have one more Sun chore to do and I need an hour's sleep. I have to keep in mind it isn't the effort, but the end results. Just wish they would be a bit more rewarding.

    LOL, God bless Chey!
