A good poem with great ending. the artist had the last laugh and finally realized after putting his loved one under deep scrutiny in order to paint her, that she really was nothing. Meter is good, poem flows nicely.

Very well done...and a true surprise ending for sure. I liked this stanza in particular, author:
"He labored long, painstakingly,
till each day's light grew dim,
his brushes knowing as they moved
her smile was not for him."
Good job, overall..Bob

Now, this is one of the few where I hadn't guessed the ending. Very clever. Good flow and rhyme, but best of all, a wonderful story of spurned love, and the way he paid her back for her taunting. Good luck in the contest and warmest regards, Marijke :o)

He asked no fee as he arose
and left her standing there,
staring at his painting of
an empty velvet chair.
Artist do love their work when it is their best! Until the last verse I had no clue! Great poem and good luck in the contest!
