Very nice description of a poet. A few things: It's one big block of a paragraph. You should break it up into stanza's even if it is free form.
(an exploder of conventions or indoctrinator)keep the language simple as you started out.
Here you can start a new paragraph--- But a poet is also a person with their own desires, feelings and limitations, and personal interpretation will always shine through. But most of all a poet is a soul who needs to reach you (where?.)

I agree with you about the big block of a paragraph but unfortunately the contest requires just ONE paragraph (and I wrote the contest so I can't really go against it!! LOL)
Oddly enough, the phrase "exploder of conventions" was one of the inspirations I had to write this paragraph.

I know it's rather obvious but have you tried writing him a poem? A poem which describes (simply) why you write - or a piece of prose?
I wrote a poem a while ago called "Purple custard" which may interest you. If you go onto my profile page and then into my portfolio and scroll to the bottom you'll find a tab which says "Search Portfolio" - if you click on it and enter "Purple Custard" into the search bar, you should be able to find it.
Although, I do think that you may be right, he may never understand - I'm not too sure I understand why my partner likes fishing! LOLOL
