Wow, what a great reflective piece! Is your "Psoriasis" piece still up? I developed Psoriasis during my senior year in high school. It first showed up on my eyelid, and the local dermatologist was baffled. I finally went to a doc half an hour away and she gave some stuff that cleared it right up. It's just a temporary fix, but as long as I keep it handy, I can keep it under control. It is now just above the eyelid, on my ears, and on my lower scalp. The only time I'm really bothered by it socially is when someone asks me about it and tries to play the sympathy card. I tell them there are worse things!

Anyway, I appreciate your poignant ramblings here, and I wish you all the best in your endeavors. Cheers!

Thanks and yes "Psoriasis" is in my portfolio, but you'll likely need to go through three pages to locate it as I wrote it a year ago.

Thee is one reviewer who also had it around her eyes and was given very bad mecication that inflamed her eyes and blinded her for several days. Be careful. I think you will benefit a great deal from the info in this story. Good luck.

This is a most interesting and honest essay you have written about yourself and fellow writers on FS. I have also found that truth in writing is the basic draw of most writers. It would be easy to throw in some interesting but fictional sidelines when purporting the story to be biographical, but reviewers are astute and can see the illusions sprinkled about. Thank you for writing this very personal and educational work.

Spiritual Echo:

You have well-chosen your list of heroes from fanstory; but, more importantly, you have come to realize there really is a person behind the name listed as author on the books you have been reading. Further, you realize for every person who has already found their voice, there will come another who will surpass it. That is how it should be.

Thanks for sharing this well-thought-out piece
good luck in the contest

Well if those young writers (and not so young, but returning to their vraft) I'd have to hope that all the feedback from such a diverse and talented group collectively give them enough to succeed and soareven higher.

If can be moved to fall on your knees then you have experienced and also been humbled by other's acts of kindness. If I touched that place inside you with you with my words then I have been successful. While you're on your knees don't waste the experience. Scrub a floor or say a prayer. Both are therapuetic. LOL

I agree with you. The FanStory heroes are those members who have been here for the longest time and providing inputs, suggestions, constructive criticism to the new ones like me (I just joined in last month). I've met a few of them here who have provided me with great suggestions that lingered in my mind (and will definitely use if and when I decide to do another novel). They are ankh, amahra, rita and one more who I just read her review so im sorry if i forgot her penname :-)

One thing you might want to is check the profiles on a regular bases when you find writers who touch you. Stories that have been recognized and received awards and wins are flagged. It can add dimension and also revela more of the kind of writing that you respect. Discovering what you like in other authors helps develop your own craft. Good luck here. My best advise is to remain brutally hones and humble.

Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

How hard is it, really, to spit reality on a blank page, read by strangers?
Extremely hard, sometimes almost impossible. When we expose reality, truths about ourselves there's that opening of old wounds and also the doubt and fear of wrong perception by others, at least on my part.

Perhaps my most stunning victory on site was my post entitled "Psoriasis."
I read this and was very touched by it.

Every time a writer pens something that moves me, I realize that out there, somewhere is a person, breathing, that had geography and circumstance been altered, might have been my friend.
I think in every word a writer puts down on paper or on screen, contains their flesh and blood. So through a writer's words - you can see them.

You do understand clearly thaat moment when a writer sits down, opens a vein and uses their blood and sould to do something that is meaningful.

I don't think you should be too worried about people getting the wrong impression or misunderstand. If their is a misunderstoon concept then that's a warning to be more direct.

Truth is often painful but I think it is the main ingredient is presenting something with an authentic voice. Thanks for sharing.

Hello SE, This is a warm and heartfelt tribute. As I am new to FS I have not gained the inspiration you have received yet, but I know it is coming. Writers are indeed a rare breed, for every successful one thousands number as also rans. But it is the race we crave, it is the smell of the track and the smoothing of the curves we merrily-go-round. You couldn't have shared your heart any better! Oh, to have such a dedicated reader hooked on my book as you! I don't need to tell you how clear your writing is, or how beautifully you scripted your thoughts. Very eloquently written! :-)

Miss Tina, I am sure you have people you have moved and touched. A writer who has an inner need to shred back the layers of defence and allow the pen to reveal his/her truths will find many reaons to be humbled and inspired. That is who you are. Embrace it and at least once this summer dance naked under the moonlight and watch the stars smile and laugh with you.

Beautiful. I am new to this site struck a nerve. The unfulfilled dream... I wrestle with this daily lately. I mourn the loss of dreams more than the unfulfilled dream. I like fanstory because it reminds me I am not alone. But the most important part is that I actually get to interact with the authors of what I read. I can't do that with any best selling author. They do not know I exist. Thank you for posting.

Don't sell yourself short. There are quite a few authors on this site that tripped in the same way that you and I did and a year or two later are publishing books.

As I said, this piece was prompted by two authors whom I have followed for almost a year, piercing their veins and dipping ink into the open wound.

You'll find your heroes and don't be surprised if you become your own.
