I would say God was on your side and watching out for you. God is aware of your thankfulness and true apprciation at still being here to take care of your family and watch them grow up. I cannot believe that you drove after that. And without even a scratch. WOW.
This story was written so well, the build up of tension and drama was spot on. The way you wrote it with such realism really takes the reader ion the trip and slip with you.

So, your story was absolutely authentic in both your feelings of false security and how quickly things can happen while driving in the winter.
