I read the prompt a little differently than you did.You addressed the issue of how to decide and you did it well. I agree that the ultimate criterion is what you will think of yourself.

This is your very own version of Sinatra's "My Way", deepwater. Well done. I especially liked these two lines: "Only to bet your soul against the human unknown,
Seeking intimate wealth in the company of friends". I do think in a piece this short, I might consider changing out one of the "only"s starting two lines in such close proximity. Just a thought.

With the addition of the photo - I imagine this capture wanting to life the life of a bull fighter. The lyrics / words stray from that notion if this was your intent. I do like the sentiment behind the words in the poem - one has to love themselves before you can love others,

Good metaphoric imagery.
--Nice, interesting picture image.
--"well-lit avenues of life,"
Good metaphor.
--"Seeking intimate wealth in the company of friends,"
Nicely expressed.
--"Then will you be at peace with yourself
And to be able to say, I am my best friend,"
So true.
