A well written free verse poem. I wish you well in the contest! The only thing is the last line says "to have lived a life that was of my own choice." The contest is about a life they ALMOST lived, so there is some confusion on my part there, but it is still a nice poem.

I think the reason I liked this so well, is that we so often tend to complain our lives would be better if it weren't for 'someone' else. They don't want to take the way as to say it was 'their way' or as Mr Sinatra said, 'I did it my way'..Thank you..

This is an uplifting poem. It is so important to find self-fulfilment in life and you can only do that for yourself, no one else can do it for you. The poem has a nice choice of words and seems heartfelt. It has a very good philosophy behind it all. Good luck in the contest!

"And to be able to say, I am my best friend" is a purpose we
