A LITTLE naughtiness you say? Very well done! I was surprised at how much Latin I remembered without the translations, which I found delightful, though I believe you have more practice with the language than I. :) Excellent use of Julius Caesar's quote.

Thanks, Sean - maybe I understated the naughtiness. I'm not quite sure why both of these poems took off in that direction...

My Dad wanted me to take Latin in case I should ever become a chemist - while I loved the Latin lessons, chemistry was probably my worst subject...
It is good that it has finally found a use, even if it is only to make people laugh - come to think of it, that's not such a bad ambition. Glad to see you poking around in the portfolio...

I guess the point would be that there are many Latin words and phrases which are in common use in English. 90% of thos I used would be found in an English dictionary, so you could say that I did make my choice - just as valid an English poem as one that uses a few difficult English words.

The joining of two languages makes an interesting and fun read. Most lines I got the jist of the action. The author notes told me what I did not conclude and and then I laughed some more. Great piece and could have read on!

Sometimes people wonder why anyone would study Latin or other foreign languages, but they don't see the immense benefits - the phrases I've used here are just the tiniest tip of the iceberg really if you think how the bulk of our Language is based around it - not to mention the knowledge of grammar and history you pick up as well.

yes, sadly, more and more high schools are removing it from the curriculum - I think when my son's teacher retired, that ended Latin in our school district, which had offered it for many decades.
